Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of disaster mitigation-based spatial planning policies in West Sumatra. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method to conduct an in-depth analysis of policy implementation and its practical outcomes. Data was collected from various sources, including policy documents, reports from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and scientific literature. The results indicate that while the policies have shown some positive impacts, such as reducing disaster risks and improving infrastructure resilience, their implementation remains suboptimal due to key challenges. These include weak coordination among stakeholders, limited resources, and inadequate public participation. For instance, spatial planning regulations, such as the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW), often lack integration, leading to inconsistent policy enforcement. Moreover, resource constraints, both financial and human, hinder the execution of mitigation programs. The community's limited awareness and involvement further complicate efforts, as policies often fail to address local needs effectively. To enhance policy effectiveness, this study recommends strengthening inter-agency coordination, enforcing strict compliance measures, and fostering community participation through inclusive planning approaches. Evaluating and refining existing policies is crucial for West Sumatra to achieve disaster resilience and sustainable development.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems in Muar Johor play a critical role in maintaining coastal stability, biodiversity, and supporting local livelihoods. This study explores the ecological characteristics, threats, and conservation efforts surrounding the mangrove forests in the Johor River Estuary, Malaysia. The report examines the current condition of the mangrove areas, the species found within, and the challenges faced by the ecosystem. Additionally, it discusses the economic importance of mangroves, including their role in aquaculture, traditional fisheries, and ecotourism. The paper concludes with recommendations for improved conservation strategies and multi-stakeholder collaboration to protect these vital ecosystems.

Abstract

Jakarta faces significant challenges in flood management due to rapid urbanization, climate change, and inadequate drainage systems. The government has implemented various policies, such as levee construction, river revitalization, and polder systems, yet their effectiveness remains debatable. This study aims to evaluate the implemented flood management policies and propose sustainable solutions. The research employs a qualitative approach with policy analysis based on secondary data from government reports, scientific journals, and expert interviews. The findings indicate that existing policies have not been fully effective in reducing flood risks due to a lack of inter-agency coordination, budget constraints, and low community participation. Therefore, sustainable solutions, including ecosystem-based approaches, improved green infrastructure, and technology integration in early warning systems, are essential to enhance urban flood resilience.

Abstract

Coastal and participatory development is a challenge as well as an opportunity for local governments in realizing the welfare of coastal communities without ignoring environmental sustainability. This study discusses various strategies carried out by local governments in encouraging coastal development that is oriented towards and involving the community. Through a multidimensional approach that includes social, economic, and environmental aspects, local governments are expected to be able to integrate policies that are responsive to the needs of the community and the ecological conditions of coastal areas. Strategies such as strengthening local institutions, increasing community capacity, and actively involving stakeholders are the main keys to creating inclusive development. In addition, the importance of socialization, wise management of natural resources, and cross-sector collaboration also support the achievement of development goals.
