Abstract

Abstract

Critical thinking skills in high school chemistry are still relatively low. One of the factors that causes students' low critical thinking skills is teachers who still dominate learning activities. This research aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on Socio-scientific Issues (SSI) on students' critical thinking skills on hydrocarbon combustion material. This research was carried out at SMAN 11 South Tangerang City. The research method used in this research is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research method. The research sample was XI IPA 1A (as the experimental class) and XI IPA 1B (as the control class) with 16 students each. The instrument used was a description test with 22 questions representing 12 indicators of Robert H. Ennis' critical thinking. The results of the N-Gain data hypothesis test using the t-test (Independent Sample t Test) obtained a sig (2-tailed) < ?, namely 0.00 < 0.05 so H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. This shows the influence of the problem based learning model based on socio-scientific issues on students' critical thinking skills on hydrocarbon combustion material.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the contextual learning model assisted by E-LKPD Liveworksheets on student learning outcomes on the material of colligative properties of solutions. This research was conducted in one of the public high schools in South Tangerang using the quasi-experiment method and non-equivalent control group design. Sampling using a purposive sampling technique consisting of 40 students of class XII MIPA 2 (control class) and 40 students of class XII MIPA 3 (experimental class). Data collection using a multiple choice test of 30 questions. The results of hypothesis testing of learning outcomes data using the t-test (Paired Sample Test) with a significance level of 5% obtained an Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.00 0.05 so that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. This shows that there is an effect of the contextual learning model assisted by E-LKPD Liveworksheets on student learning outcomes on the material of colligative properties of solutions.

Abstract

Student-centered learning significantly influences students' learning and thinking abilities. However, in practice, many teachers still use conventional teaching methods, such as lectures, to deliver material. Conventional teaching is often chosen because it can quickly convey information and is easy to implement in the learning process. Learning activities are a process for students to enhance their abilities and skills. One of the essential skills students need to develop is critical thinking. This skill can foster cognitive aspects and improve students' problem-solving abilities. Critical thinking skills can be trained during learning activities. This study aims to determine students' critical thinking skills in conventional learning on hydrocarbon combustion. The research employs a descriptive quantitative method with a test instrument in the form of essay questions. Ennis's critical thinking aspects measure students' critical thinking skills. Ennis's critical thinking aspects consist of 5 aspects encompassing 12 indicators. The results of the study show that students' critical thinking skills in conventional learning are categorized as low with 52.80%.

Abstract

Since students are given the chance to participate directly in their education, project-based learning can enhance their learning results in chemistry, a subject that is considered challenging. Determining the impact of the PjBL model on student learning outcomes for colloidal material is the goal of this study. This study's approach is a quasi-experiment. Two classes—XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 2—that were chosen through purposive sampling made up the research sample. The instrument used in this study is a valid and reliable multiple-choice test of colloidal material. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the average posttest score for the project-based learning model differs from that of the traditional learning model. According to the posttest results, the experimental class's average score was higher—86.27—than the control class's, which was 76.73. Thus, it can be said that the project-based learning methodology has an impact on students' learning outcomes when it comes to colloidal content.
