Abstract

Generation Z shows strong characteristics of individualism, reflected in their high freedom of speech, strong self-autonomy, and tendency to live self-centered lives. They typically dislike being hindered and are accustomed to doing everything themselves to achieve their personal goals. This research aims to explore how individualism influences the spiritual growth of Generation Z. Research using a qualitative approach with literature review methods reveals that Generation Z tends to view religion or church as something more personal and less relevant in their daily lives. Negative stereotypes about the church arise due to their perception that their freedom of speech is hindered, leading to feelings of spiritual and religious oppression. To address these challenges, churches need to adopt approaches that meet the needs of Generation Z. Based on the results of the literature review analysis, it appears that through mentoring and building healthy communities, churches can create environments that support Generation Z in developing their own spirituality.

Abstract

This research aims to see how the character of teenagers is negatively impacted by Ma'pasilaga Tedong culture. The research method uses a qualitative approach with interviews, observation, and content analysis. This research proposes an approach to reconstructing adolescent character through the application of character education with Simon Chan's spirituality theology approach. Chan's principles, which emphasize a deep understanding of sin, human nature, and the integration of Christian doctrine with spirituality, can guide youth toward spiritual growth and character following religious values. The research results show that what initially had a positive value in strengthening cultural identity and community solidarity, its implementation has developed into the practice of gambling and hurts adolescent morality and religiosity. However, the character of teenagers can be built again by providing a deep understanding of sin, vulnerable human nature, and the need to build spiritual values to avoid the negative impacts of the Ma'pasilaga Tedong culture.

Abstract

This research is an attempt to investigate Amos Yong’s Approach to Intercultural Theology as a framework for bridging Pentecostalism with the Batu Simbuang ritual in the Toraja society. The background of this research is grounded in the perception that Pentecostalism is often seen as having conservative attitudes toward culture. The research found that the roots of Pentecostal doctrine are closely linked to culture. Furthermore, the research shows the presence of shared values between Pentecostalism and the Batu Simbuang ritual, which is a part of Toraja society’s life. The contribution of this research lies in its exploration of Amos Yong's Approach to Intercultural Theology as a framework for fostering connections between Pentecostalism and the Batu Simbuang ritual in Toraja society. By challenging the perception of Pentecostalism as culturally conservative, the research reveals the intricate connection between Pentecostal doctrine and culture.
