Abstract

This research aims to examine the development of Islamic education in Andalusia as part of the dynamics of Islamic civilization. This study uses a library research method with a historical approach to understand educational phenomena during the period of Islamic rule in Spain (711–1492 AD). The main focus of research is on educational institutions such as kuttabs and universities, the development of science, and factors supporting educational progress. The research results show that Islamic education in Andalusia does not only involve religious knowledge, but also the fields of philosophy, medicine, science, art and language. Educational institutions such as the kuttab taught the basics of jurisprudence, language and art, while universities such as the Universities of Cordova and Granada became scientific centers that produced famous scientists such as Ibn Hazm and Ibn Rushd. Internal factors such as Islamic values and motivation to study, as well as external factors in the form of support from authorities and intellectual competition with the Eastern Islamic world, are the main drivers of this progress.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the factors influencing the transformation of governance systems in majority-Muslim countries, focusing on the relationship between history, religion, and socio-political contexts in shaping the diverse governance systems. The political dynamics in majority-Muslim countries reflect the variety of governance systems influenced by historical, religious, cultural, and geopolitical factors. Some countries like Indonesia, Tunisia, and Senegal have successfully built full or transitional democracies, enabling active public participation in decision-making processes. In contrast, countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates maintain autocratic structures based on Sharia law as the basis of legitimacy. The method used is qualitative research with a library research approach, where various sources of information such as books, academic journals, and official reports are reviewed to understand the differences in governance systems from democracy to autocracy. The results of the study show that, despite the diversity in the application of governance systems, many Muslim-majority countries are striving to manage power while responding to social, economic, and public needs, either through fair elections or socio-economic reforms. This research is expected to provide insights into the challenges and opportunities in the journey towards stable and inclusive governance in majority-Muslim countries.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the efforts of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in enhancing the emotional intelligence and communication skills of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 11 Merangin. The background of this research is based on the importance of developing emotional and social aspects as part of a holistic education approach, considering that many students still face difficulties in managing emotions and interacting effectively. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore the strategies implemented by PAI teachers and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors encountered during the learning process. The findings reveal that PAI teachers apply three main approaches: preventive, developmental, and curative. The preventive approach involves instilling values such as self-control, empathy, and tolerance through contextual learning and communication with parents. The developmental approach is carried out through interactive learning methods such as group discussions and role-playing activities, while the curative approach includes individualized mentoring and collaboration with guidance and counseling teachers for students experiencing emotional and communication challenges. The consistent integration of Islamic values within the learning process has proven effective in strengthening students' character, enhancing emotional intelligence, and fostering healthy communication. The success of these strategies is supported by the strong commitment of PAI teachers and a conducive school environment, although challenges such as limited instructional time, lack of family support, and internal student factors remain.
