Abstract

This thesis is entitled “Acculturation of the Tingkeban Tradition (Case Study in Bakalanrayung Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency)”. This study has two research focuses, namely the implementation of the Tingkeban ceremony in Bakalanrayung Village, Kudu District, Jombang Regency, and the cultural elements that are acculturated in the Tingkeban ceremony in Bakalanrayung Village. The anthropological approach is used to analyze the cultural studies of the Tingkeban tradition through various cultural elements as descriptive objects of culture. The results of this study are (1) the stages of implementing Tingkeban starting with determining the time and place, followed by preparing the items needed, preparation before the event, and then carrying out the main event procession consisting of khataman, taking cengkir by the father-to-be, recitation, watering and holy, changing cloth or jarik, and selling dawet. (2) There are various cultural elements that blend with each other. These cultural elements consist of Animism and Dynamism beliefs, Hindu culture, and elements of Islamic culture.

Abstract

Manuscripts are a valuable legacy of Indonesian ancestral culture that reflects the thoughts and feelings of the past. Manuscripts have important historical and cultural values, with various types such as hikayat, fiber, babad, and others. One example of an ancient manuscript is Serat Yusuf, which originated from Madura and is written in Pegon Arabic script. This study aims to reveal the content and characteristics of Serat Yusuf, especially in facing the temptation of Siti Zulaikhah. The diplomatic edition of the single manuscript philology method was used in editing the manuscript, with the stages of data collection, text criticism, text editing, transliteration, and content analysis. The results show that Serat Yusuf tells the life story of the Prophet Yusuf and focuses on the temptation of Siti Zulaikhah. The Prophet Joseph is portrayed as a figure with firm faith and morals, showing wisdom in facing the temptation. Philological and cultural approaches were used to understand and analyze the text. The results of this study provide an indepth understanding of the cultural values and moral messages contained in Serat Yusuf, which are relevant to be studied in the context of people's lives today.

Abstract

This study seeks to establish a zero-tolerance environment for sexual violence at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya by enhancing internal processes based on Islamic campus principles. It addresses ongoing concerns of sexual violence and the lack of effective preventive and response procedures, highlighting the significance of gender awareness and justice for victims. This study employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, grounded in the social-ecological model, comprising four stages: planning, action, observation, and evaluation. Stakeholders across the institution contributed to policy development, education, awareness campaigns, and the formation of a Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satuan Tugas Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual/Satgas PPKS). Continuous evaluation enabled improvements at each phase. The findings show that campus members' awareness of sexual violence remains low, with misunderstandings regarding its forms and consequences. The study yielded significant results through participatory action, including the formation of a gender-responsive task force, policy proposals, gender education initiatives, and a "Zero Tolerance Sexual Violence" declaration. These actions increased the institution's commitment to a safe and inclusive campus. This study was limited to a single institution and relied on leadership support and readily available infrastructure. However, its structure provides a paradigm for different Islamic higher education situations. This work presents an innovative synthesis of Islamic ethics and gender justice, utilising participatory and ecological methodologies, which results in a reproducible paradigm for reducing sexual violence in higher education.
