Abstract

Previous research on reading has indicated that the primary obstacle for university students in understanding texts is often unfamiliar vocabulary. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of narrow reading in enhancing the vocabulary of university students and to assess their perceptions of this strategy's implementation. The research design utilised was pre-experimental. The study included 25 second-semester Management majors at a university. Data collection instruments consisted of vocabulary tests and a questionnaire, and the data was analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The results indicate that narrow reading is an effective strategy for improving the vocabulary of university students. The statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary achievement after the implementation of narrow reading (p = 0.000, which is less than 0.05). In conclusion, the narrow reading strategy has been shown to enhance the vocabulary comprehension of university students effectively. Furthermore, the students have a positive perception of the implementation of the narrow reading strategy. It is recommended that English instructors consider incorporating narrow reading into their teaching practices, and future researchers can use these findings as a reference.

Abstract

Penelitian yang dilakukan di Usaha Kecil Menengah (UKM) ayam broiler di wilayah Blimbing Malang ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dengan cara mendesain ulang chicken plucker machine, sehingga terjadi kenaikan output baku dari 17 produksi/jam menjadi 20 produksi/jam. Metode yang digunakan adalah ergonomi, karena terjadi keluhan ketidaknyamanan dalam menjalankan mesin tersebut. Desain ulang mesin dibuat lebih kecil ukurannya agar moveable bagi pelaku Kata Kunci : chicken plucker machine, ergonomi, UKM, produktivitasUKM ayam broiler.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology has encouraged the use of digital platforms as instructional media in higher education. Educators are expected to apply learning tools that can increase students’ motivation, engagement, and understanding. AhaSlides is an interactive platform that provides features such as presentations, audio, visual, and audiovisual elements to support more dynamic learning activities. This study aimed to analyze students’ perceptions of the use of AhaSlides as an instructional medium in the Presentation in English course. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method. The participants were fourth-semester Management students at a university in Sumenep. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of eleven statements, including five statements measuring students’ perceptions before using AhaSlides and six statements measuring their perceptions after its implementation. The results showed that students’ perceptions before using AhaSlides were categorized as very poor, indicating low motivation and ineffective learning experiences. However, after the implementation of AhaSlides, students’ perceptions improved significantly and were categorized as very good. This finding indicates that AhaSlides effectively enhances students’ engagement, motivation, and understanding of Presentation materials. Therefore, AhaSlides can be considered an effective instructional medium to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the Presentation in English course
