Abstract

Walnut plants are a type of Multi Purpose Tree Species (MPTS) plant from Maluku. This plant has many benefits, especially as a food ingredient, but walnut commodities are still classified as by-products so it is difficult to obtain the production data. The study aimed to determine the amount of income walnut farmers receive to achieve an increased community economy. Revenue data was obtained from the physical amount of the product multiplied by the prevailing price. The study results showed that the potential for walnuts in Selayar Regency reached 273.19 tons, mainly in Onto Village, which reached 29.24 tons with a land area of 41 Ha. The selling price of walnuts is quite expensive, namely IDR 60,000 / kg. On average, if farmers have 1 ha of land, the farmer's income per year is around IDR 21,600,000. The findings suggest that walnuts are a favored crop in Onto Village, underscoring their role in enhancing community income

Abstract

Community Forestry (HKm) is a scheme that aims to empower local communities and provide access to manage protected/production forest areas. The pine resin commodity is one of the sources of livelihood for the community in the Cempalagie HKm area by utilizing existing access. Value chain analysis is very important to find out the pine resin commodity business actors in the marketing chain from upstream to downstream, namely from raw materials to become a product through qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. The results of the value chain analysis will then show the market structure in the form of market type, number of sellers and buyers, product differentiation, entry barriers, cost structure and conglomeration formed in each chain. The number of respondents was selected as 30 households by census based on respondents who work as pine resin tappers. The results showed that pine resin commodity business actors consisted of tappers, intermediary traders and wholesalers or pine resin processing industries in which the flow of goods, information and money occurred and marketed pine resin and pine resin products in the form of gondorukem, turpentine, alpha pinene and delta carene to international markets, namely India, Vietnam and China.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the indirect economic value of mangrove ecosystem services as a natural coastal barrier using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach and the replacement cost method. The study was conducted in Tubo Sendana District, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province, a coastal area with high levels of abrasion and mangrove degradation. Spatial analysis was conducted using Sentinel-2 imagery to identify the distribution, density, and length of mangrove vegetation lines (PGVM). Meanwhile, an economic analysis was conducted by comparing the protective function of mangroves with the cost of building coastal protection infrastructure in the form of concrete embankments. The results showed that the length of mangrove vegetation reached 2,960 meters with a total area of 34.29 ha and varying levels of vegetation density. The indirect economic value of mangroves as a coastal barrier is estimated at approximately IDR 16.87 billion, which represents the replacement cost if this function is replaced by artificial infrastructure. On an annual basis, this value shows significant economic efficiency compared to a hard infrastructure-based protection approach. In addition, the results of the NDVI analysis indicate a mangrove zoning pattern that can be used as a basis for ecosystem-based coastal management. This research confirms that mangroves not only serve ecological functions but also constitute natural infrastructure with high economic value. The integration of spatial approaches and economic valuation provides a strong scientific basis for supporting the formulation of sustainable coastal management policies based on ecosystems and the blue economy.

Abstract

The problem of organic waste remains a challenge on the campus of Universitas Sulawesi Barat, primarily because of the increasing activity of campus residents and the suboptimal awareness of sorting and managing organic waste. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of campus residents in making and using a simple composter to support sustainable organic waste management. The activity methods included socialization, demonstrations, direct practice, and evaluation. The participants in the activity included students, lecturers, and elements of campus leadership/staff. The material provided covered the importance of organic waste management, the potential for utilizing waste into compost and liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), and the stages of making a simple composter. The results of the activity showed that participants were actively involved in discussions and practices and were able to understand the basic stages of making a simple composter. After the activity was conducted, several academic communities at Universitas Sulawesi Barat began using simple composters, including the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Integrated Laboratory UPA, the Forestry Laboratory, and direct use practices at the homes of several lecturers. Although the activity has not yet reached the implementation of organic waste processing on a large scale, the existence of the simple composter has the potential to support the reduction of organic waste volume and encourage environmentally friendly behavior on campus.
