Abstract

This research investigates the connection between social anxiety and self-esteem among first-year students who have migrated from other regions to Universitas Negeri Padang. Employing a quantitative approach with a correlational design, the study included 44 migrant students as participants. Data were gathered through both online and face-to-face distribution of questionnaires. The statistical analysis indicated a significant negative relationship between social anxiety and self-esteem, with a correlation coefficient of -0.812 (p< 0.01). This finding demonstrates that higher levels of social anxiety are associated with lower levels of self-esteem among students, and conversely. The results highlight the influence of social anxiety on the social and psychological capacities of first-year migrant students. This study aims to offer valuable insights into the psychological challenges faced by migrant students and provide a foundation for creating interventions to enhance their well-being.

Abstract

Mental health issues among adolescents have become an increasingly critical concern, particularly regarding the low level of mental health literacy among the younger generation. This study aims to analyze the role of Instagram as a health promotion medium in improving mental health literacy among adolescents aged 15–18 years. A descriptive quantitative method was employed using the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire (MHLQ), which was distributed online to 70 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The results indicate a significant positive correlation between the frequency of interaction with mental health promotion content on Instagram and adolescents' mental health literacy levels (ρ = 0.449; p < 0.05). Most respondents demonstrated moderate to high levels of mental health literacy, suggesting that Instagram has the potential to be an effective tool for enhancing adolescents' understanding and awareness of mental health issues. This study provides evidence that social media can serve as a non-formal intervention tool to support efforts in increasing mental health literacy among Indonesian adolescents.

Abstract

Cases of child sexual abuse and exploitation present serious challenges with lasting psychological and social consequences for victims. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of psychoeducation as an intervention strategy to improve elementary students' understanding of sexual violence prevention. Utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group, the study involved 38 students from grades 3 to 6 at SDN 09 Bancah, Agam District. The intervention consisted of a single session featuring age-appropriate educational content, discussions, and interactive activities. Data analysis revealed a significant increase in students’ comprehension post-intervention, as indicated by the Wilcoxon test (p < 0.05) and an N-Gain score of 0.78 (classified as high). These results suggest that psychoeducation is an effective approach to enhance children’s awareness and knowledge about personal safety and sexual abuse prevention. The study highlights the need for sustained implementation of such programs in primary schools, with active involvement from teachers and parents to ensure a protective learning environment.
