Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the concept of gender equality in hadith, with the goal of providing a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of how hadith regulates the relationship between men and women in various life contexts, whether in family, social, or professional domains. This study employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The primary data sources are collections of hadith relevant to the topic of gender equality, gathered from various trusted hadith compilations. The analytical techniques used include interpretation of hadith texts, comparison with related Quranic verses, and review of classical and contemporary scholars' views on this issue. The results of the study indicate that hadith generally supports the principle of gender equality in many aspects, although there are some hadiths that require historical and sociocultural context to be comprehensively understood. These hadiths, if interpreted correctly and contextually, show that Islam provides equal rights and responsibilities between men and women and encourages respect and gender justice. However, the interpretation and implementation of gender equality in Muslim societies are often influenced by local cultural and traditional factors, which sometimes deviate from the true essence of Islamic teachings. This study highlights the importance of a critical and contextual approach in understanding hadith texts to support efforts in achieving gender equality that is just and in accordance with Islamic values.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore the methodology of writing the book Siyar A'alam an-Nubala by al-Hafidzh Az-Dzahabi as a practice of rijal science, both Tarikh ruwat and Jarh wa Ta'dil. Because with these two disciplines we can trace the credibility of a rijal (narrator) and find out about the history of the narrator. One of the writing methods in Tarikh Ruwat is the thabaqat style. And in this case, we will present the book Siyar A'alam an-Nubala to examine its writing method so that the author hopes that scholars, especially activists in the field of hadith, can find out the description of the book and the technicalities of its use. This writing uses the library research method, with a qualitative approach. And the author also presents sample cases discussed in the book as practice for analyzing the results of this research.

Abstract

The Muqaddimah by Ibn al-Salah serves as a foundational reference in the study of methodologies and principles within the science of hadith. This work addresses critical aspects related to the authenticity, validity, and methods of understanding hadith. Comprising 65 chapters, the Muqaddimah provides a comprehensive discussion of the disciplines of hadith science and has become an essential resource for scholars in the critique of hadith. This research was conducted to examine the characteristics of hadith classification found in the Muqaddimah of Ibn al-Salah. The research methodology employed in this study is qualitative descriptive, which elaborates on various topics to present a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the book’s content. The author references several works that discuss the Muqaddimah and the methodology employed by Ibn al-Salah in his classification of hadith. This includes consulting the primary source, the latest edition of the Muqaddimah, to validate the opinions of scholars who have analyzed the book. The findings reveal that the Muqaddimah by Ibn al-Salah is distinctive in its presentation. Unlike many subsequent works, it is not structured into chapters or sections, nor does it classify the topics systematically. Such a format was unconventional in many writings produced after the era of Ibn al-Salah.

Abstract

This paper discusses the analysis of the biography of Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar (Ibnu Ishaq) in the context of Jarh wa Ta'dil, a branch of hadith studies that evaluates the quality of hadith transmitters. Ibnu Ishaq is known as an influential Islamic historian, but his role as a hadith narrator has often been criticized by scholars. This study covers a brief biography of Ibnu Ishaq, the criticisms (jarh) against him, and the defenses (ta'dil) he received. Criticisms of Ibnu Ishaq include allegations of tadlis (concealing transmitters), weaknesses in the chain of narration (sanad), and negative views from scholars such as Yahya bin Ma'in and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal. Nonetheless, Ibnu Ishaq's significant contributions to Islamic history are recognized by several prominent scholars. The paper concludes that a deep understanding of the context and methods of Ibnu Ishaq's transmission is necessary to appreciate his contributions without neglecting the fundamental principles of hadith studies.
