Abstract

The high risk factor for accidents in the laboratory and the limitations of practicum equipment have led to the underutilization of laboratories in schools. The high risk factors for accidents in the laboratory and the limited number of practicum tools cause the lack of laboratory use in schools. To overcome these problems, a virtual laboratory has been developed for educational purposes. The focus of this inquiry was to create a virtual laboratory learning media. The practicum in the virtual laboratory uses tissue culture materials in the material on biotechnology. The category of research employed is research and development (RD) utilizing the 4D model which include Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate stages. The subjects in this study were 23 respondents. The results of the validation of the virtual laboratory by media and material experts fall into the highly valid category with a percentage of 96.6% rating. The outcome of the practicality test through student responses amounted to 85% with a exceptionally category. The results of the validity and practicality evaluations showed that the virtual laboratory of tissue culture on biotechnology material is suitable for use as  learning  media.

Abstract

Limited laboratory facilities and suboptimal practical activities are problems in biology education, particularly in biotechnology classes in high schools. To address these issues, this study aims to develop an educational medium in the form of a virtual laboratory based on Islamic values for biotechnology material in high schools. This research and development (R&D) employed the 4D development model, which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the feasibility level, as assessed by the media validation test, reached 88%, the material expert validation test reached 90%, and the Islamic values expert validation test reached 92%, each falling into the “highly valid/highly feasible” category. The practicality test by teachers scored 84%, and the practicality test by students scored 80.3%, both categorized as “practical/feasible.” These findings indicate that the virtual laboratory based on Islamic values in biotechnology material at the high school level is considered practical and feasible for use in learning. It is expected that this virtual laboratory can serve as an innovative learning medium for teachers and students.

Abstract

The study of ethnozoology is closely related to local culture and knowledge and their interaction with the surrounding environment. Islam was brought to Kudus by Ja'far Shadiq, known as Sunan Kudus, using a unique da'wah strategy, namely, the fatwa on the prohibition of cow slaughter for the people of Kudus. The social tradition of the community regarding the prohibition of slaughtering cattle, makes the Kudus area more likely to consume buffalo meat than beef. The purpose of this research is to find out the ethnozoological perspective related to the prohibition of cattle slaughter (Bos taurus) according to the philosophy of the teachings of Sunan Kudus in socio-cultural and economic life. The research method used is qualitative field research with qualitative description analysis techniques. Data collection was conducted through observation, literature review and interview results related to general knowledge of customary, cultural and ethnozoological aspects in depth with informants. The data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively by making transcripts of the interview results which were written carefully taking and recording important information with the research context. The research was conducted in several areas of Kudus, including Kirig Village, Ngembalrejo Village, and Dawe District. Based on the results of the research, the fatwa on the prohibition of slaughtering cows in Kudus has been believed by the community from the past until now, but the results show that there are still some Kudus people who slaughter cows, one of which is the Muhammadiyah Islamic group, besides that, the Kudus community utilizes buffaloes as a function of cows, all of which go back to their respective beliefs because there are still many cattle breeders found to be traded.
