Abstract

This study explores the portrayal of liberal feminism in Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes series, focusing on how the narrative challenges societal perceptions of women's intellectual and physical capabilities. Liberal feminism, rooted in the first wave of feminism, emphasizes equality through legal reforms and individual rights. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze Enola Holmes, highlighting the character's defiance of Victorian societal norms. Enola's rejection of traditional schooling and pursuit of autonomy underscore themes of gender equality and personal freedom. Supported by her mother, Eudoria Holmes, Enola embodies resilience and self-determination, advocating for women's rights to define their identities independently. Through qualitative analysis of dialogues and actions, this study illuminates how Enola Holmes champions liberal feminist ideals of gender equality and individual empowerment. The findings reveal Enola as a transformative figure challenging patriarchal constraints, inspiring reflection on gender roles and advocating for societal change towards equality and personal fulfillment.

Abstract

This study examines gender equality through the lens of liberal feminism in the film Mulan (2020), addressing a significant research gap in existing feminist analyses of the film. While previous studies have examined Mulan's character from various perspectives, this research focuses specifically on how her character development and actions reflect liberal feminist principles, offering a fresh perspective on her challenge to patriarchal norms. Data was collected and analyzed using qualitative textual analysis, which involves a close examination of key dialogues, character interactions, and narrative choices within the film. This method allows for a deeper understanding of how Mulan's journey embodies the ideals of liberal feminism, particularly in its defiance of traditional gender roles and its advocacy of individual agency. This study argues that the character of Mulan represents a meaningful redefinition of female agency through liberal feminist ideals. By portraying a strong female protagonist who challenges societal expectations, the film reinforces feminist discourse and highlights the evolving representation of female empowerment in contemporary cinema.

Abstract

The study meticulously examines the pervasive theme of nature exploitation through an in-depth analysis of Jesyca Tina's evocative short story, Bumi Tak Seindah Dulu. By focusing on the adverse effects stemming from humanity's excessive exploitation of natural resources, such as environmental degradation, disasters, and ecosystem transformations, the research aims to provide profound insights into the intricate dynamics between humans and their natural surroundings as depicted in the short story. Through a carefully designed descriptive qualitative research methodology, the study meticulously gathers primary data directly from the narrative canvas of the short story, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the themes and motifs therein. By grounding its analysis in the principles of eco-criticism, the research illuminates the complex interplay between human actions and environmental consequences, underscoring the urgent need for conscientious and sustainable practices. Moreover, the study emphasizes the narrative's pivotal role in fostering environmental consciousness and advocating for responsible stewardship of the planet. By shedding light on the intersections of literature, ecology, and ethical responsibility, the research serves as a compelling call to action for a paradigm shift towards more harmonious and sustainable coexistence with the natural world. Through its nuanced examination of these themes, the study seeks to inspire readers to reevaluate their relationship with the environment and embrace a more environmentally-conscious lifestyle.
