Abstract

Construction projects often face various hazards that can lead to serious or even fatal injuries, especially if risk identification and control are not properly implemented. This study aims to determine the safety risk levels in construction work related to architecture at the XYZ building project. Data collection methods included observation, documentation, and interviews, while the data analysis used the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Opportunity (IBPRP) method in accordance with Ministerial Regulation PUPR No. 10 of 2021. The research was conducted in August 2024. The risk assessment identified 24 risks in architectural work, with the primary risks including falls from heights, being struck by materials, cuts from tools such as grinders, and electrical shocks. The conclusion of this study is that architectural work in the XYZ building project has 24 identified risks, of which 12 are categorized as very high risk. Control measures such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls, training, and strict supervision are necessary to reduce risks to an acceptable level. It is recommended to enhance risk control through training and the use of PPE to reduce injuries in construction projects.

Abstract

Introduction: PT PAL Indonesia is one of the largest shipyard industries in Indonesia, Based on the results of the survey conducted, there were several unsafe acts and unsafe conditions observed. The aims of this study aim to analyze the effect of personality, characteristics of individuals and safety management practices on safety performance of workers in the Commercial Ship Division of PT PAL Indonesia Surabaya. Method: This study used a cross-sectional design and simple random sampling method, involving 104 worker samples from a population of 139 workers. The dependent variable was personal safety performance, while the independent variables were personal awareness, safety management practices safety training and individual characteristics. Primary data were collected through questionnaires, observations and interviews. This study includes univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with Chi-square test and multivariate analysis using logistic regression analysis. Results: Based on the results of logistic regression analysis, the effect of conscientiousness personality with safety performance (ρ=0.013), the effect of safety management practices with safety training (ρ=0.000), the effect of age variables with safety performance (ρ=0.024) and the effect of working period variables with safety performance (ρ=0.024). Conclusion: There are effects of conscientiousness, personality, age, working period, safety management practices, and safety training on safety performance of workers at PT PAL Indonesia in 2023. This research can improve work safety performance by understanding the factors that influence it and companies can design more effective safety strategies.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) referred to complaints affecting the muscles and bones, ranging from sprains to chronic disorders that carried a risk of disability. Proper ergonomic implementation supported workers' health, comfort, and productivity, while poor ergonomics could trigger complaints. Identifying work positions, processes, and layouts was necessary to prevent MSDs. This study analyzed the effect of Workplace Stretching Exercise (WSE) on MSDs complaints among building construction project workers in Malang Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental design and the Pretest-Posttest Control Group method. The study results indicated differences in MSDs complaints before and after the WSE intervention, demonstrating the effectiveness of the intervention. Ordinal regression analysis showed that several factors had a significant effect on MSDs complaints, including age 17-25 years (ρ=0.016), age 26-35 years (ρ=0.004), very low work posture (ρ=0.006), low work posture (ρ=0.008), work duration (ρ=0.007), low workload (ρ=0.023), moderate workload (ρ=0.015), and the WSE intervention (ρ=0.020). These findings indicated that, in addition to individual and work-related factors, the implementation of WSE played a role in reducing MSDs complaints among building construction project workers in Malang Regency. The researchers recommended that workers maintain optimal body posture, apply safe lifting techniques, avoid prolonged static positions, and perform regular stretching exercises as a preventive measure against musculoskeletal injuries
