Abstract

Employee retention is one of the most challenging issues in the healthcare industry, especially in hospitals. With the vast growth of hospitals and the declining growth rate of healthcare workers (medis and non medics), hospitals need to prioritize in employee retention to reduce their turnover, since a high turnover disturbs the stability, cost and quality of the services in the hospital. This study analyses the effect of two independent variables, which are the reward and recognition system to employee retention. Data collection is done through a questionanaire conducted in a purposive sampling manner. The sample used in this study were employees in JEC Eye Hospitals and clinics with a total of 70 respondents. The data analysis method is partial least squares regression. The result of this study indicate that the reward system positively influences the employee retention of JEC Eye Hospital and Clinics. These variables give a contribution of 33.6% of employee retention, while the remaining 66.4% is influenced by variables outside of this study.

Abstract

Introduction : Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a type of allergic conjunctivitis which often occurs repeatedly and chronically. It is unusual compared to other types of conjunctivitis due to its giant papillae (GP) manifestation that may cause serious complication on cornea and eventually lead to permanent vision loss. We present a surgical treatment—resection of GP—in conjunction with autologous conjunctival membrane graft to manage a severe case of VKC. Case Illustration : An 18-year-old male came with a prior history of recurrent acute allergic keratoconjunctivitis since seven years before. His GP had caused shield-like ulcer, which leads to corneal scar and interferes with his visual acuity. He also had mechanical ptosis due to the giant cobblestones. His symptoms were then managed by performing combined papillectomy and autologous conjunctival membrane graft. Discussion : During surgery, the GP on both of his eyes were excised until tarsus was visible. Autologous conjunctival membrane was grafted from superior quadrant of each eye, and sutured tightly onto the excised tarsus. Six month postoperatively, his superior tarsal conjunctiva remain relatively smooth, with well-controlled symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis. Conclusion : Combined papillectomy and autologous conjunctival membrane graft can be considered as an adjunctive intervention to medications, in patients with severe, refractory cases of palpebral vernal conjunctivitis. It can alleviate symptoms and reduce the possibility of permanent damage on corneal tissue.

Abstract

The tradition of grave pilgrimage (ziarah makam) has long been rooted in Javanese culture, both before and after the arrival of Islam. This activity is generally understood as an expression of respect for ancestors as well as a means of praying for the souls of the deceased. Among Javanese Muslims, grave pilgrimage also serves as a spiritual and social expression that reflects the relationship between the living and the departed. However, a different perspective emerges from Agus Mustofa through his work “Tak Ada Azab Kubur”, which presents a counter-narrative to traditional beliefs about the afterlife and the concept of punishment in the grave. This study aims to analyze the critical reasoning proposed by Agus Mustofa concerning his interpretation of the concept of grave punishment and its implications for the tradition of grave pilgrimage in Java. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, examining Agus Mustofa’s texts and thoughts systematically and situating them within the context of Javanese Islamic tradition. The findings reveal that Agus Mustofa offers a rational and contextual reinterpretation of the doctrine of grave punishment, challenging the literal understanding held by many believers. This study enriches the discourse of Islam in Java by opening a space for dialogue between tradition, spiritual interpretation, and modern rationality.
