Abstract

Senior and vocational high school students need to have strong environmental literacy (EL) to face environmental challenges and support the achievement of SDGs. High EL levels, supported by spiritual values, encourage students to make wise, environmentally friendly decisions and become agents of environmental conservation. Muhammadiyah schools play an important role in this regard through subjects that integrate religion and life. However, there has been no mapping of spirituality-based EL profiles among Muhammadiyah students in Malang Raya. This study aims to analyze the spirituality-based EL profile of Senior and Vocational High School Muhammadiyah students in Malang Raya. Using a cross-sectional survey approach, EL data from 584 students in grades X, XI, and XII in nine Muhammadiyah schools were collected and analyzed based on gender, class, and parental education. The results showed that there was no significant difference in EL between male and female students, as well as between classes. However, parental education, especially fathers and mothers who did not attend school, had a significant effect, although the effect was small to moderate. These findings suggest that life experience and parenting factors may influence students' EL, and that educational environment factors require further exploration to fully understand their influence.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the characteristics of trichomes, chlorophyll and lead content of various leaves in the Fabaceae family in the Malabar Urban Forest, Malang. The research was carried out using direct exploration methods (for sampling the leaves of each plant), and laboratory observations. The research will start from July 2023 to May 2024. The research was carried out in the Malabar Urban Forest, Malang, and the Biology Laboratory of UMM. Observation of anatomical structures using a binocular microscope, leaf chlorophyll content using a spectrophotometer, and lead content using the AAS method. The results of the research show that [1] there are variations in the characteristics of leaf trichomes in terms of type and other characteristics and there are variations in the number or average of trichomes; [2] Chlorophyll content in various types of leaves of the Fabaceae family in the Malabar Urban Forest. The highest chlorophyll a and b content is found in the Samanea saman plant and the lowest in Erythrina crista-galli; and [3] leaf lead content shows variation. The highest lead content is in the leaves of the Samanea saman plant and the lowest is Gliricidia sepium and Senna siamea. This research provides implications as baseline data for monitoring changes in trichome characteristics, chlorophyll content and lead in the leaves of Fabaceae family plants in the Malabar Urban Forest in the future as indicators of environmental dynamics. Information regarding variations in Fabaceae leaf characteristics can be used to develop bioindicators of environmental pollution, especially related to heavy metal pollution, as well as provide input for the management and conservation of urban forests.

Abstract

Students of Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools and Muhammadiyah Islamic Junior High Schools need to have environmental literacy to practice environmentally friendly attitudes, become nature conservationists, and fulfill the school's role in serving education and the environment. However, there has been no mapping of EL profiles in Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools and Muhammadiyah Islamic Junior High Schools in Malang City. This study aims to analyze the EL profile of Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools and Muhammadiyah Islamic Junior High Schools in Malang City. Using a cross-sectional survey approach, EL data from 412 students in grades VII, VII, and IX in six Muhammadiyah schools were collected and analyzed based on gender, class, and parental education. The results showed that there were no significant differences in EL between male and female students, as well as between classes, and parental education. This study concludes that interventions or policies to improve environmental literacy can be applied universally, regardless of gender, grade level, or parental education.
