Abstract

Community Service Activities (PKM) aim to empower students in managing vegetable waste into compost at SMA Muhammadiyah Kota Jayapura. The results of community service activities (PKM) include: (1) students know the benefits of utilizing compost from vegetable waste that can help the economy and overcome environmental pollution. (2) through socialization and training, students can process vegetable waste into compost independently. The tools used in making compost include plastic buckets and lids, cloth, gloves, shovels, brooms, and rakes. The materials needed to make compost are organic waste (vegetables and fruit peels that have been chopped), sawdust, brown sugar solution, water, a solution containing microbes (EM-4), and mature compost. This composting process takes 2 weeks and after that the compost is ready to use. The management of vegetable waste into compost has been proven to be able to increase the use of waste in everyday life and is one of the solutions to environmental problems

Abstract

Air memiliki rumus kimia H2O yang terbentuk dari atom hidrogen (H) dan atom oksigen (O). Satu molekul air terdiri dari dua atom hidrogen (H) dan satu atom oksigen (O). Air dibutuhkan oleh semua makhluk hidup meliputi manusia, tumbuhan dan hewan. Seiring bertambahnya jumlah penduduk dan aktivitas manusia di sektor industri, perdagangan, dan pertanian menyebabkan kebutuhan air meningkat sedangkan sumber air relatif berkurang. Penggunaan lahan untuk pemukiman dan penebangan hutan secara liar menyebabkan air hujan yang turun tidak bisa secara langsung meresap ke dalam tanah. Hal ini membuat masyarakat cemas dan menyebabkan penurunan debit air di Kali Kampwolker Kota Jayapura. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) yang dilakukan oleh dosen Universitas Muhammadiyah Papua (UMP) dan dosen Universitas Internasional Papua (UIP) dalam bentuk sosialisasi gerakan menanam pohon. Tujuan utama dari kegiatan PKM ini adalah menanam pohon untuk mengatasi penurunan debit air di Kali Kampwolker Kota Jayapura. Kegiatan ini menggunakan pendekatan langsung kepada masyarakat setempat dengan metode ceramah, diskusi, dan tanya jawab. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan ini, memberikan peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang bagaimana cara menjaga kelestarian hutan, manfaat menanam pohon untuk mengatasi penurunan debit air, dan menumbuhkan sikap gotong royong.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of students towards waste management at SMA Negeri 6 Skouw. A descriptive quantitative approach was used in this study with a survey method through a closed area distribution. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 3 main aspects: knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of students towards waste management. The research sample consisted of 48 respondents selected by purposive sampling. The results showed that students had a very positive profile in the three main aspects of waste management. In the knowledge aspect, students were in the capable category as evidenced by their high understanding of the classification of organic and inorganic waste and their risk impacts. This good knowledge was then embedded linearly with students' attitudes which were classified as positive so that a sense of personal responsibility arose to maintain the cleanliness of the school environment. Furthermore, this was reflected in the high level of awareness and demonstrated the readiness and commitment of the trained participants in carrying out real waste management efforts.
