This paper aims to investigate the emerging blue economy landscape in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Furthermore, this paper seeks to explore various dimensions of sustainable marine resource management and initiatives undertaken by MENA countries to exploit blue economy opportunities. As the MENA region advances in developing its blue economy, this study seeks to offer comprehensive insights into marine resource utilization, sustainable development principles, and increased regional collaboration in fostering a strong blue economy framework. By analyzing current practices, this research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of how the MENA region can effectively integrate blue economy principles into national policies, improve marine infrastructure, and build cooperative frameworks for environmental protection and economic growth.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive research that aims to analyze the effectiveness of the role of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) in reducing economic inequality in Islamic countries, especially through the trade sector. The data collection method involves analysis of documents and online sources. Furthermore, this study uses qualitative data analysis with a secondary data approach. In this case the theory of international organizational effectiveness by Biermann and Bauer is used as a framework. This research reveals that the OIC has an effective role through institutions such as COMCEC and ICDT, with collaborative efforts and resource allocation through the IDB. Stakeholder involvement, institutional design, and concrete outputs such as the growth of intra-OIC trade and an increase in the GDP of member countries are evidence of the effectiveness of the OIC in reducing economic inequality through the trade sector. Despite facing challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, OIC has succeeded in proving its commitment in efforts to reduce economic inequality in Islamic countries in order to achieve more inclusive economic prosperity.

Abstract

The digital transformation has reshaped the media industry, moving from traditional models to technology-driven approaches such as content personalization and direct-to-consumer (D2C) streaming. In journalism research, Discourse Network Analysis (DNA) has emerged as a novel method to map relationships among actors, discourses, and narratives across platforms. By integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches, DNA offers comprehensive insights into media discourse dynamics. In Indonesia, its application remains limited, addressing issues like gig economy policies, sexual violence, and peatland restoration. Supported by frameworks such as the Advocacy Coalition Framework and Collaborative Governance Theory, DNA enables the analysis of conflicts of interest, coalitions, and ideological shifts. However, Indonesian research often emphasizes quantitative approaches, overlooking qualitative insights essential for contextualizing discourse. Unlike linear-focused methods such as content or critical discourse analysis, DNA excels in the significant data era by processing large-scale social media content, integrating textual and relational data, and visualizing complex communication networks. This makes it particularly valuable for understanding how information flows and evolves, offering strategic insights into shifting communication patterns, media consumption behaviors, and audience engagement in the digital age.

Abstract

Abstract

This article explains the development of the International Relations (IR) perspective in Japan through the contribution of Nishida Kitaro, a leading philosopher from the Kyoto school. Nishida Kitaro is a Japanese philosopher who created unique concepts that combine elements of Japanese culture and spirituality with Western thought. In the context of IR, Nishida's concepts such as “pure experience”, “bashō logic”, and “self-contradictory identity” offer alternative views in understanding global issues and the dynamics of inter-state relations. This research uses document and internet-based analysis methods, with qualitative data to explore Nishida's thinking and his contribution to IR studies. Research findings show that the concept of "pure experience" teaches about pure experience that is integrated with reality, presenting an inclusive perspective in analyzing global issues. Meanwhile, "the logic of basho" which emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things through the place where they appear, influences a collaborative approach to handling global issues. The thought of "self-contradictory identity" opens up insight into the complexity of reality and avoids simplistic views in analyzing actor actions in international relations. Overall, Nishida Kitaro's thinking provides a unique perspective that differs from Western IR, opening up opportunities for understanding and addressing complex challenges in interstate relations. His contribution to building a uniquely Japanese IR perspective has the potential to provide an interesting alternative to understanding the dynamics of international relations.
