Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest seafood producing countries in the world, with significant fisheries potential to support national economic growth. This study aim to analyzes the export volume and value trends of Indonesia's fishery products from 2018 to 2023, focusing on key commodities such as shrimp, tuna, seaweed, crabs, and lobster. The data used includes annual export volume and value for each commodity. The analysis results show that the volume of Indonesia's fishery exports fluctuated, with a significant increase until 2020 (1,262,830 tons) and a decline in 2021 and 2022, although it remained stable in 2023 (1,221,196 tons). The export value also showed a significant increasing trend, peaking in 2022 at 6,242,085 USD, before decreasing to 5,630,947 USD in 2023. Despite the decline in the last two years, the fishery sector in Indonesia continues to make a significant contribution to the national economy, with key commodities maintaining high competitiveness in the international market. These findings are important for the development of strategies that can boost Indonesia's fishery exports and strengthen its position as a leading global exporter.

Abstract

This study compares the economic welfare of farmers in the capture and aquaculture fisheries sectors in South Sulawesi Province through an analysis of Fisherman’s Exchange Rate (NTP) as an indicator of purchasing power and economic stability. Secondary data from the South Sulawesi Central Statistics Agency (BPS) were used to examine the development of farmers' exchange rates in both sectors between 2018 and 2022. Statistical analysis shows that the NTP in the capture fisheries sector is higher than in aquaculture, indicating relatively better welfare in the capture sector. Results from a paired sample t-test reveal a significant difference between the two sectors (p < 0.001), with a more stable average NTP in the capture sector. This study recommends technological and infrastructure support for the aquaculture sector to improve economic stability. The study has implications for more adaptive and sustainable fishery management policies to enhance the welfare of fishery farmers in South Sulawesi.

Shrimp cultivation business in educational ponds at the University of Muhammadiyah Makassar located in Manakku Village, Labakkang District, Pangkep Regency is a business with vanname shrimp commodities. This study aims to determine the amount of costs and income, business studies on various vanname shrimp culture technologies carried out by 3 vanname shrimp farmers. This is done to assess whether the cultivation business is feasible or not feasible to be developed. Based on the business studies carried out, it can be seen that the vanname shrimp cultivation business in the education pond is profitable. The research results obtained are; 1) The investment cost for each farmer is Rp. 19,000,000,-. The total cost of vanname shrimp farming per farmer is Rp. 71.818.750, -, Rp. 140,685,000, -, and Rp. 207,712,500,-. The value of BEP Production/volume per farmer is 1025.98 kg, 2164.38 kg, and 41542.50 kg, while the price BEP is Rp. 43,083, Rp. 42,210 and Rp. 41,543.
