Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a complex and multifactorial disease, which causes metabolic disorders to the point of insulin resistance in peripheral tissues (Heidyana, 2020). Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a condition when the body is unable to convert food into energy as it should. With the development of science, there are many new discoveries that direct diabetes treatment using functional foods and changing lifestyle, one of which is herbs. One herb that can control blood sugar levels is using the herb bark of snake fruit (Salacca Zalacca). Aim, Analyzing Salak Fruit Skin (Salacca Zalacca) as an Anti-Diabetic T2. Literature Review Design, Data source: Search using the Google Chrome database, Google Scholar, articles on the topic published in Indonesian and English from 2018-2023. Review Method: Search for articles using keywords that match the writing. Articles are selected by journal selection, abstract selection with inclusion and exclusion criteria so that journals are found that can be reviewed. The results of the literature review of the 8 selected articles were then categorized into 2 characteristics of salak fruit skin. Consisting of 2 articles on compounds in salak fruit skin (Joshua & Sinuraya, 2018), (Setyawaty et al., 2020). And 6 articles about salak fruit peel as anti-diabetic (Dhyanaputri et al., 2016), (Ghofur et al., 2020), (Anggraeni & Nasution, 2019), (Sholihah & Tarmidzi, 2022), and (Handayani et al. , 2021). Overall conclusion: Salak fruit skin is one of the herbal plants that has antidiabetic effects. This is supported by the many compounds contained in snake fruit skin which can treat diabetes. Salak peel plays a role in lowering blood sugar levels, inhibiting α-glucosidase, regenerating pancreatic β-cells and increasing insulin sensitivity. Keywords: snake fruit peel (Salacca Zalacca), blood glucose levels, Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, herbs,                        Literature Review

Abstract

Blood sugar levels increase after eating and decrease when you wake up in the morning. The presence of insulin in the body is very important to avoid diabetes. Reducing blood sugar levels is with complementary therapy, which can also be called complementary-alternative therapy. One of the complementary therapies that can be applied to Type II DM sufferers is the intake of Lemongrass extract (cymbpogon citratus). The Lemongrass plant (Cymbopogon citratus) is a herbal plant with chemical contents consisting of alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, phenols, steroids which can act as antidiabetics. Research Objectives Determine the Effect of Lemongrass Extract Tea (Cymbpogon Citratus) on T2 Diabetes. Research method Literature review using databases via Proquest, Pubmed Central, Google Scholar with the results of 1,554 journals excluded because they were published in 2018 and above and used languages other than Indonesian and English, and research journals in Assessment then journals that were published and journals that were not in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 6 journals that have been reviewed using inclusion and exclusion criteria in the PICOS format. Conclusion: Lemongrass tea compounds containing flavonoids and phenolic compounds have antidiabetic effects, improving glucose tolerance, beta cell function and dyslipidemia. Lemongrass as an anti-diabetic product contains flavonoid compounds and phenolic compounds which have anti-diabetic effects, improve glucose tolerance, beta cell function and dyslipidemia.Key words: complementary-alternative therapy, reducing sugar levels, glucose, lemongrass, Type II DM.

Abstract

The natural sweetener from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, steviol glycoside (SG), has been proposed to exhibit various antidiabetic properties. This low-calorie artificial sweetener is claimed to be a safe sweetener and is recommended for use by diabetes sufferers because it does not affect the patient's blood glucose levels after consumption. The aim of this literature-based review is to synthesize the available scientific information regarding steviol glycosides as natural sweeteners and molecules with therapeutic potential. Additionally, it also addresses safety issues related to human consumption. Steviol glycosides exhibit superior sweetening properties compared to sucrose and are noncaloric, noncariogenic, and nonfermentative. Method: data sources from journals were obtained through electronic database searches in PubMed, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, EMBASE and full text bibliography. Conclusion Evidence from published RCTs shows that Steviol glycosides can reduce blood pressure and fasting blood sugar. The magnitude of the impact is small, and large heterogeneity limits the strength of any impact. Keywords: Stevia; Effect, Steviol glycoside; Type 2 diabetes; Blood sugar.

Abstract

Diabetes is a silent killer that can kill, kill. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is caused by impaired pancreatic function, where the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively. DM is often characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease (NCD) which is a public health problem, and has a fairly high number of sufferers in the world. There are many ways to treat and prevent DM, including changing a healthier lifestyle and using herbal treatment which can improve hyperglycemia in DM patients, one of which is cinnamon. Objective: to determine the effect of administering cinnamon powder on blood glucose in diabetes mellitus sufferers. Method: literature review design, journal data sources were obtained through a search using the database: Crom, Goggle scholer, journals published in 2019-2023. The journal data list in this study was created based on title, full title, full text and methodology assessed for study feasibility. Data tabulation and narrative analysis and study findings were conducted. Results and analysis: based on a journal that discusses the effect of cinnamon powder on reducing blood glucose in T2DM sufferers. Conclusion: giving cinnamon powder to diabetes mellitus sufferers can reduce blood sugar levels. This is because polyphenols help insulin to enter blood sugar into cells that accumulate in blood vessels so that the body's metabolic processes are fulfilled. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Cinnamon Powder, Blood glucose, Effect, literature review.
