Abstract

This study focused on analyzing the teacher's utterances, namely, there are types of Politeness strategies by Yule's theory (1996), which researchers took to be two strategies, namely positive politeness and negative politeness. This research uses the descriptive-qualitative method by conducting observation and documentation. Based on the results of the analysis applied, researchers found 42 pieces of data from both types, namely positive politeness and negative politeness. Positive politeness: there are 29 data points with a percentage of 69% and negative politeness: there are 13 data points with a percentage of 31%. From the results of this study, the most dominant thing teachers say when teaching is that teachers apply positive politeness. This analysis shows how important politeness strategies are to improving teacher-student interaction. It shows that a balanced approach can help the teaching and learning process be better and students feel motivated.

Abstract

Sosialisasi pengenalan software duolingo di SMAN 1 Pantai Cermin merupakan kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) yang dilakukan mahasiswa Universitas HKBP Nommensen Meda bersama dosen pembimbing. Duolingo muncul sebagai solusi platform pembelajaran bahasa dengan tujuan utama untuk membuka pintu akses yang lebih luas terhadap pendidikan. Sebelumnya, teknologi dalam pembelajaran, khususnya dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris, belum optimal. Siswa hanya mengandalkan buku pelajaran dan kamus untuk menggali kosakata baru. Keadaan ini tidak selaras dengan tuntutan zaman saat ini, di mana penggunaan teknologi diharapkan menjadi norma dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan, termasuk dalam dunia pendidikan. Dengan diperkenalkannya Duolingo, solusi inovatif yang mengusung pendekatan modern dan interaktif dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa, tanggap terhadap kebutuhan akan metode pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dan kontekstual. Keuntungan lain dari software duolingo ini membuat pembelajaran tidak membosankan dikarenakan belajar sambil bermain. Selain itu, meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa inggris siswa serta menambah pengetahuan siswa terkait IPTEK. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diharapkan dapat diterapkan dan dilaksanakan oleh siswa untuk menambahkan kemampuan berbahasa inggris dan melatih kemampuan literasi mereka.
