Abstract

Patients with COVID-19 have increased serum levels of Procalcitonin and decreased albumin, a key inflammatory marker associated with a high risk of organ injury and death. This study aims to determine the profile of inflammatory parameters albumin and procalcitonin in covid-19 patient cases. The type of research used is retrospective with a cross sectional approach. The research data were taken using a simple random sampling technique. Analysis for albumin with severity in COVID-19 positive patients in this study used an optimal limit or cut-off value of 3.5 g/dL. The optimal limit or cut off value for Procalcitonin in this study was 0.05 µg/L. The results of research from 30 patient data showed that there was a decrease in albumin levels in moderate and severe patients by 60% and an increase in procalcitonin levels > 0.05 µg/L by 96%. The conclusion of this study is that there was a decrease in albumin levels and an increase in procalcitonin levels in COVID-19 case patients, which indicates inflammation due to SARS-COV2 virus infection.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with rising global and national prevalence. Glycemic control, measured by glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), is essential to prevent complications. Previous studies showed inconsistent findings on the effects of age, gender, body mass index (BMI), and triglycerides on HbA1c levels, with limited use of logistic regression. This study examined the influence of age, gender, BMI, glucose, and triglyceride levels on HbA1c control in Indonesian patients with T2DM. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary medical records of 55 T2DM patients treated at RA Basoeni Clinic, Mojokerto, Indonesia, in 2024. Inclusion criteria included patients aged ≥18 without anemia or hemoglobinopathy; patients with incomplete data were excluded. HbA1c values were estimated from average fasting and postprandial glucose over the past three months using the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2019 conversion table. HbA1c status was categorized as controlled (≤6.5%) and uncontrolled (>6.5%). Logistic regression analysis was performed using SPSS version 25.0. The study adhered to STROBE reporting guidelines. Results: Of the 55 patients, 24 (43.6%) had controlled HbA1c and 31 (56.4%) had uncontrolled HbA1c. Logistic regression showed that BMI (OR=1.192, p=0.047), glucose (OR=1.026, p=0.044), and triglycerides (OR=1.017, p=0.049) significantly predicted HbA1c status. Age (p=0.837) and gender (p=0.884) were not significant predictors. The model explained 68.9% of the variance (Nagelkerke R²=0.689) with an overall classification accuracy of 83.6%.. Conclusion: BMI, glucose, and triglycerides are significant predictors of HbA1c control in T2DM patients, while age and gender are not. To improve glycemic outcomes, clinical management should prioritize weight regulation, glucose monitoring, and triglyceride control.

Abstract

Stunting, or the condition of growth failure in children under five, is caused by chronic malnutrition that occurs from pregnancy until the child is two years old. Children experiencing stunting have a height below the standard for their age and are at risk of cognitive, motor, and immune system impairments. The community service program GEMILANG (Balanced Nutrition for a Brilliant Generation) was carried out in Kesamben Wetan Village, Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency, activity was conducted from Agustus 2025 with the aim of improving the knowledge, skills, and nutritional awareness of pregnant women, mothers of toddlers, and posyandu (integrated health post) cadres in stunting prevention based on local food. Activities included education on balanced nutrition, introduction to the potential of local food sources, training on nutritious food processing such as moringa leaf pudding, and strengthening the capacity of posyandu cadres in monitoring the nutritional status of toddlers. The implementation method used a participatory approach through interactive lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests as well as participant practice observations. The results showed an average knowledge increase of 33–35%, 90% of participants were able to practice the recipes at home, and 38% began utilizing their yards to grow vegetables or moringa leaves. In addition, there was a 20% increase in toddler attendance at posyandu after the program’s implementation. In conclusion, an educational approach combined with local food processing practices proved effective in improving nutrition literacy and encouraging changes in family consumption behavior. This program has the potential to become a model for community empowerment based on local potential to support sustainable stunting reduction efforts.
