Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and firm performance within China's manufacturing sector, with a novel focus on the mediating effect of green technology innovation and the moderating influence of corporate reputation. Using a 2011-2022 dataset from A-share listed manufacturing companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges, the study employs multiple regression analysis with a two-way fixed-effects model to examine these relationships. Findings indicate that robust ESG practices significantly enhance company performance, mediated by green technological innovation. However, a negative moderating effect of corporate reputation suggests that higher corporate reputation weakens the ESG-financial performance relationship. Further analyses reveal that privately-owned firms, those in China's eastern region, and environmentally sustainable industries benefit most from strong ESG initiatives. This study addresses the challenge of disentangling key variables by analyzing their interconnected effects. The findings fill a gap in the existing literature by contributing to a deeper understanding of the relationship between ESG and corporate success, particularly through the mediating role of innovation and the moderating influence of reputation. Additionally, the study provides practical recommendations for managers and policymakers to enhance ESG strategies, promote growth, and support sustainable development. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-06-021 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The study addresses faculty turnover in private higher education institutions, a challenge that disrupts institutional progress and educational continuity. It examines the influence of Quality of Work Life (QWL) on turnover intention (TI) and the mediating role of Perceived Organizational Support (POS). Utilizing a stratified random sample of 396 educators across 24 private colleges, data were collected through structured questionnaires and analysed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings reveal a significant negative relationship between QWL and TI, indicating that improved work-life balance reduces educators' intent to resign. Additionally, QWL positively influences POS, which further diminishes TI, with POS mediating the QWL-TI relationship. By integrating POS as a mediator, the study provides actionable insights for educational administrators, emphasizing the importance of enhancing QWL and POS to mitigate faculty turnover. The findings offer a foundation for developing targeted policies aimed at improving workplace conditions and organizational support to ensure institutional stability. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-SIED1-020 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This research examines the dual-pathway impact of Management Control Systems (MCS) on Company Performance (CP) in China’s liquor industry, with a focus on the mediating role of Organizational Culture (OC). The research aims to address gaps in understanding how MCS enhances both financial and non-financial performance through cultural mechanisms, a critical yet underexplored dynamic in heritage-based industries. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research analyzes survey data from 497 firms using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and mediation analysis to test three hypotheses: (1) MCS directly improves CP, (2) MCS fosters OC, and (3) OC mediates the MCS-CP relationship. Key findings reveal that MCS significantly boosts CP (β=0.438, p<0.001), while OC partially mediates this relationship (indirect effect β=0.249, p<0.001). The novelty lies in demonstrating how MCS transcends operational efficiency to shape cultural assets, which in turn drive competitive advantage. This research advances contingency theory by highlighting sector-specific adaptations, such as digital MCS tools balancing tradition with market responsiveness, and offers practical insights for integrating control systems with cultural stewardship in traditional industries.

Abstract

This study assesses and compares the factors that shape the ongoing use of e-wallets in Indonesia and Nigeria after the coronavirus pandemic. Data were collected through an online survey of 275 respondents in both countries. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS SEM) was applied, revealing that perceived risk and perceived ease of use significantly influenced continued e-wallet use in both Indonesia and Nigeria, but awareness and social influence did not. Perceived usefulness also had a weak but significant effect on ongoing use. The analysis did not confirm that educational level moderated the indirect links among variables, except for the link between awareness and continuous use in Nigeria. Consequently, the study suggests that e-wallet providers in Indonesia should promote acceptance via social networks, while in Nigeria they should increase orientation and awareness for those lacking formal education to encourage post pandemic use.
