Abstract

This study explored the connection between motivation and speaking ability among eighth-grade students at SMPN 2 Kuta Utara during the 2022/2023 academic year. Out of a population of 413 students, a sample of 42 students was selected through random sampling to represent the group. To collect data, two key research instruments were employed: a motivation questionnaire to gauge the students' level of enthusiasm and determination and a speaking test focused on delivering a descriptive monologue to assess their oral communication skills. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS Statistics 25, which revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.673. This finding indicates a statistically significant and strong relationship between students’ motivation and their speaking ability, with the correlation classified as high (0.60–0.799). In essence, the more motivated the students were, the better their speaking ability tended to be. These results emphasize the critical role of motivation in language learning and suggest that fostering motivation could be a key strategy for improving speaking proficiency in English classes. Such insights could inform teaching strategies and highlight the importance of addressing both cognitive and affective factors in speaking classroom activities.

Abstract

Writing is a vital learning tool that helps students better grasp language elements in authentic settings, which is why it is so important in language instruction. This implies that in order for students to write well, they must use their minds. Motivation is therefore essential in writing since it is an internal force that motivates and enables students to act. The researcher is therefore interested in determining whether motivation and writing ability are significantly correlated. The primary objective of this research is to ascertain whether there is a noteworthy correlation between the writing proficiency and motivation of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Denpasar during the 2024–2025 academic year. Using an ex-post facto design and a correlation technique, the study included 122 students from three classes who were chosen using cluster sampling. A writing exam and a questionnaire were the research instruments used to gather data. The research process revealed a high correlation between writing skills and motivation. The findings demonstrated a considerable correlation (a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.727) between students' writing abilities and motivation. In summary, writing proficiency and motivation are significantly correlated among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Denpasar in the 2024–2025 school year.

Abstract

The translation process greatly determines the translation results. The translated text should have the same meaning as the source text but still maintain the natural elements. A creative translation model that can help translators produce good translations that have equivalence in meaning and good grammar is essential, considering that the translation process is not just a change of language but is a process of transferring meaning from the source language to the target language (Indonesian-English). RATPro  (Read, Analyze, Transfer, Produce) Translation Model that is based on Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools can be used as a creative and innovative translation model that can help translation students transfer the language of scientific article manuscripts from the source language to the target language while maintaining the equivalence of meaning and naturalness of the language through excellent and correct grammar. RATPro  (Read, Analyze, Transfer, Produce) Translation Model based on Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools can also make it easier for students to translate because it is based on digital recording. This research aims to develop a RATPro translation model based on Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools that are creative and innovative in translating scientific articles by students. The research model used is Research and Development (RnD), where research data is analyzed critically and validated to obtain valid and reliable results. The designedtranslation model will also be well used in translating authentic manuscripts in different manuscript fields.
