Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas pelatihan berbicara di depan umum dalam mengurangi kecemasan dan ketakutan berbicara pada siswa SMK Karmel, Tangerang. Kecemasan berbicara di depan umum sering kali ditandai oleh perasaan gugup, kekhawatiran akan penilaian negatif, dan respons fisik seperti keringat berlebihan serta peningkatan detak jantung. Kondisi ini secara signifikan memengaruhi kepercayaan diri dan kinerja komunikasi siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dengan data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi dari pengalaman siswa sebelum dan setelah pelatihan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa setelah mengikuti pelatihan, terjadi penurunan yang signifikan dalam tingkat kecemasan dan ketakutan berbicara di depan audiens. Berbagai teknik yang diajarkan dalam pelatihan, seperti visualisasi positif, teknik pernapasan dalam, serta latihan berulang, terbukti efektif dalam mengurangi kecemasan dan meningkatkan performa berbicara di depan umum. Siswa menunjukkan peningkatan kepercayaan diri dan penguasaan keterampilan komunikasi yang lebih baik setelah pelatihan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa pelatihan berbicara di depan umum yang terstruktur tidak hanya membantu siswa dalam mengatasi rasa takut mereka, tetapi juga secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi serta kesiapan mereka menghadapi tantangan akademis dan profesional di masa mendatang. Pelatihan ini memberikan siswa fondasi yang kuat untuk mengembangkan keterampilan komunikasi yang dibutuhkan dalam berbagai konteks kehidupan, baik di sekolah maupun di lingkungan kerja.

Abstract

This research investigates how international media portray Prabowo's image, due to his personal branding during the election process, which has garnered public attention. Prabowo, a former military general with a controversial past, has been dubbed 'cuddly grandpa' by the youth. This study aims to analyze the attitude of BBC News authors towards Prabowo using Martin & White (2005) language appraisal analysis, specifically focusing on the attitude subsystems of affect, judgment, and appreciation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, the researcher gathering the data from BBC News articles discussing the Indonesian election from February to March 2024. Nine relevant articles were identified on this platform. The researchers transcribed the data into word form and utilized the AntConc corpus software to identify sentences that contains the word ‘Prabowo,’ then the researchers categorized each sentence into attitude subsystem affect, judgment, and appreciation. The findings reveal that "judgment," with a total of 69 instances, was the most prevalent attitude. This was followed by "appreciation" with 32 instances and "affect" with 19 instances. Negative polarity was the most commonly used, appearing 67 times, while positive polarity was used 58 times. The distribution of polarity within each attitude subsystem is as follows: "affect" featured 5 positive and 14 negative polarity; "judgment" had 22 positive and 47 negative polarity; and "appreciation" showed 30 positive and 2 negative polarity. The authors effectively influenced readers by critically portraying Prabowo in their coverage. Despite this critical portrayal, they still acknowledged Prabowo's positive behavior and achievements through expressions of appreciation. Based on these results, the researchers concluded that BBC News articles were not biased in favor of Prabowo.

Abstract

Journal is a record the of descriptions or thoughts, written each day or frequently over a longperiod a diary. Education is any condition, matter, incident, event, or process of changing theattitude and behavior of a person or group of people in an effort to mature them through learningand training system. JEFL Journal is the journal that made in Indonesia and provide the educationabout learn and teaching English for the learners. Therefore, this research titled “Analysis ofVerbs and Adjectives in JEFL Journal (2021 – 2023) by Using Corpus Linguistics” purpose to findout the most of verbs and adjective that appear in JEFL Journal in 2021 – 2023 and to know therole of verbs and adjective by categorized. This research using quantitative method to gains thedata by the table. The source data is ten title journal in JEFL Journal each year. To collection datause application AntConc to know most frequently each year and TagAnt to gain the part ofspeech. The result shows the most frequently 2021-2023 is verbs than adjective and the role ofverbs is learn verbs, then the role of adjective is descriptive adjective. The result from thisresearch that most frequently is learn verbs used to do are particularly useful in describingactions. Also, for future research, can use a corpus application to research how many words areused in journals, books or films and can use health or sports objects to research
