Abstract

This article presents an Eco-ELT-based learning model for the Pragmatics course in English Education, drawing on the Eco-ELT framework. This innovative model integrates ecological principles with the study of Pragmatics, aiming to enhance the understanding of language use in context and foster a deeper connection between students and their environment. The article introduces several relevant learning materials, effective teaching methods, and assessment strategies aligned with the Eco-ELT approach. By emphasizing context, social responsibility, and sustainability, this model promotes a more comprehensive and context-aware approach to teaching Pragmatics in English Education. By integrating ecological principles into the study of language use in context, this model offers students a deeper understanding of how language operates in the real world, shaped by both social and ecological factors. Through relevant learning materials, innovative teaching methods, and comprehensive assessments, this model encourages students to use language responsibly and effectively, fostering critical thinking and social awareness.

Abstract

Eco-Critical Language Awareness (Eco-CLA), as a powerful concept to bring about environmental justice, produces eco-friendly humans with the relevant literature and language instruction. This article provides the practice of Eco-CLA in English Language Teaching (ELT) classroom by not only focusing big scheme of degraded environment condition and its worrying future impact on earth in short and long period. However, it draws the process of how ELT pre-service teachers are introduced to the ecological issues, reflect their identity and initiate pedagogical implication in ELT instructions. This research conducted a case study that involved 9 participants separated in 7 classes that were selected through the purposive sampling technique. The result of research scopes: (1) the students report on their relevant eco-literature; (2) the missing environmental values from their cultures and the drawbacks for the current surrounding situation and; (3) the momentarily appropriate responses (pedagogical implication) for the reformulation of those values to take a part into real actions in the future.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the Beelinguapp application on students’ pronunciation mastery in an EFL context. A quasi-experimental design was employed with two classes of eleventh-grade students at SMK Al-Huda Jati Agung. One class was assigned as the experimental group using Beelinguapp, while the other served as the control group receiving conventional instruction. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests. The findings revealed that the experimental group's mean score improved from 62.71 to 81.19, with a mean difference of 18.48 (p = 0.000). In contrast, the control group's mean score increased from 61.72 to 67.19, with a smaller mean difference of 5.47 (p = 0.006). The independent t-test confirmed that the experimental group achieved significantly greater gains than the control group (p < 0.05). These results demonstrate that Beelinguapp is effective in enhancing pronunciation mastery, particularly by providing students with authentic pronunciation models, multimodal input through audio and text, and opportunities for interactive practice. The study highlights the value of integrating mobile-assisted language learning applications into classroom instruction to foster more engaging and effective pronunciation learning. It also suggests that digital tools like Beelinguapp can help overcome common challenges in pronunciation teaching, where traditional approaches often provide limited exposure and practice.
