Abstract

Abstract

Disaster mitigation constitutes an essential phase in disaster management, aiming to reduce potential impacts through early identification of warning signs. At this stage, indicators of possible hazards are recognized, enabling communities to take anticipatory actions to safeguard themselves. This community engagement program focused on disaster mitigation socialization for residents in the coastal tourism area of Sindanglaya Village, which is highly vulnerable to natural hazards. The initiative aimed to equip local residents to serve as informants for tourists while also enhancing community awareness of disaster risks. The materials were delivered by geography experts, Tagana members, local community representatives, and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). The results indicated that local wisdom, expressed through ancestral disaster-related folktales, serves as an enduring form of traditional mitigation. Additionally, communities utilize kentongan (wooden slit drums) and the mosque’s call to prayer as early warning signals during potential hazard events. Evacuation route signs have been installed at key locations, directing residents to move toward hilly areas at least five kilometers from the shoreline. These findings demonstrate that combining scientific knowledge, community participation, and local wisdom effectively strengthens disaster preparedness in coastal regions.

Abstract

Village asset management is an essential component of village governance that supports accountability, transparency, and the optimal utilization of local resources. However, village officials often face challenges related to asset inventory, administration, legal status, and asset utilization in accordance with applicable regulations. This community service program aimed to strengthen the capacity of village officials in managing village assets through asset management training conducted in Sukabares Village, Waringin Kurung District, Serang Regency. The program was implemented through educational sessions, training workshops, interactive discussions, and practical assistance in preparing village asset administration documents. The training materials covered fundamental concepts of asset management, asset inventory procedures, legal audits, asset valuation, asset optimization strategies, as well as monitoring and control mechanisms. Participants included village officials, members of the Village Consultative Body (BPD), village asset managers, and community representatives. The results demonstrated an improvement in participants’ understanding of proper village asset governance, particularly regarding asset recording procedures, ownership identification, and inventory administration practices. Furthermore, participants were able to identify key challenges in village asset management and formulate practical solutions to address existing issues. The program contributed positively to enhancing institutional capacity and promoting more accountable, transparent, and sustainable village asset governance. The findings indicate that capacity-building initiatives through training can serve as an effective strategy to improve village asset management practices and support good governance at the village level.

Abstract

Higher education institutions play a key strategic role in developing tourism villages by fulfilling the Tri Dharma mandate, which includes education, research, and community service activities conducted by lecturers and students. The Cikolelet tourism village, the first in Serang Regency, has emerged as a model for such engagement, particularly for community service and research initiatives. This study analyzes how universities in the Banten area have contributed community service activities to the development of Cikolelet tourist village. Using a descriptive qualitative method and purposive sampling of informants actively involved in Cikolelet’s development, the research highlights that universities specializing in tourism have pioneered its transformation, guiding Cikolelet from its planning stage as a tourism village to its current status as a pilot and fostered village. While other universities have engaged Cikolelet as a site for research and community service, challenges remain: university programs often prioritize their own agendas over the specific development needs of Cikolelet village. This misalignment limits the impact and sustainability of interventions. For more successful development, research and community service should be tailored to Cikolelet’s priority needs, ensuring long-term benefits to the village and its community.

Abstract

The Social Rehabilitation Program for Uninhabitable Houses (RS-RTLH) is a policy of the Cilegon Government at improving the welfare of low-income communities through housing rehabilitation, particularly in Cibeber District, where many houses are still uninhabitable. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the program using Daniel Stufflebeam’s CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, Product). The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive design, collecting data through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the Head of the Social Protection and Security Division, the Head of the Community Empowerment for Social Welfare Section, the Social Counselor (Cilegon City Social Service), the Operational Service Officer (Cilegon City Housing and Settlement Agency), the Housing Survey Officer (Cilegon City Housing and Settlement Agency), and the Head of Neighborhood Association (RW 02) of Link Kerotek, Kalitimbang Subdistrict, Cibeber District. The results show that the 2023 program did not run well. Many people still need proper housing. The budget was too small, so many proposals were not accepted, and the help given was not enough to fix the houses completely. During the process, the coordination between the related offices was not good, and there were also problems with bureaucracy and the e-grant system. The program was helpful for some people, but it did not really improve the overall housing condition. Overall, the RS-RTLH program has given some support to the community, but it still needs better budget management, clear information, and good cooperation between offices to work more effectively and reach more people.
