Abstract

Gander inequality in education in the case study of Gampong Lhok Guci caused very significant social changes for the local community. Based on this, the main aim of this research is to reveal the root of the problem of gender inequality in education in Gampong Lhok Guci. The method used in this research is a qualitative method, namely to understand symptoms such as behavior, violations, attitudes, actions and points of view, clear analysis is needed. Data collection methods used in this research include interviews, documentation and observation. This research also uses secondary data obtained through journals, reports, books and the internet. Meanwhile, this research also uses primary data obtained from informants during field interviews. In this case study, it is analyzed using the social construction theory put forward by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman. These experts argue that the construction of social reality is a process of meaning carried out by each individual regarding the environment and aspects outside themselves. Social change and increased awareness of the importance of education for all genders are needed to create greater educational equality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social and environmental impacts of gold mining activities on the lives of the people in Gampong Karak, Woyla Barat District, West Aceh Regency. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques consisting of field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants included village officials, community leaders, gold miners, and local residents directly affected by mining activities. The results of the study show that gold mining activities have both positive and negative impacts on the community. From an economic perspective, gold mining has increased community income and created new job opportunities. However, these economic benefits are not sustainable because people’s income highly depends on uncertain mining yields. From an environmental perspective, mining activities have caused river water pollution due to the use of mercury, land degradation, river sedimentation, and increased risks of flooding and landslides. In addition, the quality of the Woyla River water has significantly declined, disrupting the daily activities of residents who depend on the river for household needs and agricultural irrigation. From a social perspective, there has been a shift in livelihoods from agriculture to mining activities, the emergence of social conflicts, and changes in the social life patterns of the village community. This study concludes that the long-term negative impacts of gold mining are more dominant than its economic benefits. Therefore, stronger government supervision, better mining management, and increased public awareness are needed to maintain a balance between economic needs and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

This study examines the participation of the Suak Nie village community in the conservation of the Suak Nie City Forest Park in West Aceh. A qualitative approach with a single case study was applied; data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews (Keuchik, youth leader, residents), and focus group discussions (FGDs), then analyzed thematically using source triangulation. Results indicate a low-moderate level of participation, with the dominant forms being fire prevention, water channel cleaning, and fencing to control livestock access. There are differences in perceptions between actors: the Keuchik reported active participation and cooperation with the government, while the youth leader assessed that the community was less participatory due to economic preoccupations and an attitude that the responsibility rests solely with the local government. The threat of peatland fires is a major issue, while illegal logging is limited due to the dominance of fern vegetation. Conclusion: participation is hampered by economic priorities and a lack of coordination. Recommendations: training and outreach programs tailored to agricultural schedules, the establishment of community patrols with simple incentives, and regular reforestation campaigns to raise environmental awareness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze illegal gold mining activities in Gampong Pante Ceureumen and their impacts on the environment and surrounding communities. This research used a qualitative descriptive method through field observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that mining activities were carried out in groups consisting of 7–12 workers at each mining site. Each worker had a specific role such as machine operator, gold panner, material transporter, and site supervisor. The mining area was located in mountainous terrain with damaged roads and landslide-prone conditions, causing travel to the site to take up to two days. Workers faced various challenges including machine breakdowns, bad weather, and limited logistics. Food expenses were partially deducted from workers’ salaries, while some workers brought their own food supplies from home such as rice, eggs, instant noodles, onions, and chili. Based on field interviews, there were allegations of weekly payments to certain individuals to maintain mining operations. Illegal mining activities also caused environmental damage including deforestation, landslides, flooding, and disruption of wildlife habitats. The study concludes that illegal gold mining provides short-term economic benefits but creates significant social and environmental risks for the surrounding community.
