Abstract

Many aspects affect preparedness in adolescents, one of which is the environmental conditions in which the adolescents live, such as Islamic boarding school students who live 100 meters from seashore. Since its establishment, Islamic boarding school has never received any training on earthquake and tsunami preparedness. The purpose of this research was to determine the level of preparedness of Islamic boarding school students to face the earthquakes and tsunamis in Pasie Nan Tigo Padang. This research was descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional research design. The sample in this research were Islamic boarding school students, totaling 86 students used the proportional stratified random sampling' sampling technique and met the criteria. The instrument used questionnaire of LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR (2006). Based on the results, that 60.5% of Islamic boarding school students had a moderate level of preparedness to face with earthquakes and tsunamis. Parameter of knowledge about disaster as many as 61,6% of students in the medium category, parameter of emergency planning as many as 69,8% of students in the low category, parameter of warning system as many as 66,3% of students in the low category, and parameter of resource mobilization capacity as many as 87,2% of students in the low category. It is suggested that Islamic boarding school cooperate with disaster-related agencies to conduct disaster counseling and simulations as well as facilitate existing infrastructure related to disasters.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that impairs children's physical and cognitive development. A mother's knowledge is a crucial factor in preventing stunting, as it influences her behavior and decisions regarding child nutrition and care. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the level of knowledge about stunting among mothers of toddlers at the Posyandu Camelia, Rawalumbu District, Bekasi City. Method: This quantitative descriptive study used a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 27 mothers was selected using consecutive sampling during February 2025. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis. Knowledge was categorized as good (76-100%), sufficient (56-75%), and poor (<56%). Result: The majority of respondents were aged 20–30 years (55.56%), had a bachelor's degree (59.26%), and were unemployed (70.37%). The study found that most mothers (55.56%) had a poor level of knowledge about stunting, while 25.93% had a sufficient level, and only 18.52% had a good level. Conclution: A significant portion of mothers at Posyandu Camelia have a poor level of knowledge regarding stunting, despite a high level of formal education. This highlights a gap between formal education and practical health literacy, emphasizing the need for more intensive and targeted health promotion programs. Keywords: knowledge, mother, stunting

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease in the form of a metabolic disorder characterized by blood sugar levels that exceed normal limits. Diabetes mellitus patients may have physical complaints of pain, stiffness, numbness, and tingling that are usually related to the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. This article aims to report the effect of Su Jok therapy on the severity scale of physical complaints in diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: This case report involved 15 respondents, and the data were collected in May 2023 at a public health center in Yogyakarta. Su Jok therapy was conducted by massaging with a probe for 5-10 minutes on the pain point found on the hands, and then followed by putting the fenugreek seeds with the sticky tape. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used for statistical analysis.Result: The report showed 13 respondents were female (86.7%) and 2 respondents were male (13.3%), with the largest number in the age range of 51-55 years and the age range of 61-65 years, as many as 5 respondents each (33.3%). A total of 19 types of physical complaints were found, with the most complaints being pain in both knees (26.67%). On a Likert scale of 1 to 5, where 1 represents no complaints and 5 represents extremely severe complaints, the average severity of physical complaints was 3.16 prior to therapy and 2.05 following therapy. Conclusion: Before and after Su Jok therapy, individuals with diabetes mellitus saw a substantial decrease in the severity scale of physical complaints (p=0.001, p<0.05). It may be stated that Su Jok combined with massage and fenugreek seeds, is a therapeutic approach that can help individuals with diabetes mellitus experience less severe physical problems.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between parenting styles and mental health among first-year university students in Indonesia. An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The research was conducted at two academies under Education Foundation X in Jakarta and included 43 first-year students aged 18–19 years who completed the Parental Authority Questionnaire-Short (PAQ-S) and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Parenting styles were classified as authoritative, authoritarian, or permissive, and mental health was assessed in terms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Descriptive analysis showed that students who perceived their parents as authoritarian had the highest proportions of severe and extremely severe symptoms in all three domains. Non-parametric tests indicated significant differences in depression, anxiety, and stress scores across parenting style groups, with the authoritarian group showing higher median scores than the authoritative group. Post hoc comparisons confirmed that authoritarian parenting was associated with significantly poorer mental health than authoritative parenting. These findings suggested that parenting style remained an important factor for psychological well-being in late adolescence and supported the promotion of more authoritative parenting to help protect first-year university students from mental health problems.
