Abstract

Introduction: Periodontitis is defined as an inflammatory disease of the tooth-supporting tissues caused by certain microorganisms. One of the surgical treatments for generalized chronic periodontitis is gingival curettage. Gingival curettage is a closed surgical procedure involving the removal of inflamed soft tissue lateral to the pocket wall. The goal is to promote the attachment of new connective tissue to the root surface by removing the pocket lining and junctional epithelium using a curette.Purpose: To determine whether gingival curettage is an effective treatment for patients with generalized chronic periodontitis. Case presentation: A 26-year-old female patient presented to the Special Dental and Oral Hospital of South Sumatra Province with complaints of rough masses on all of her teeth. Clinical examination revealed calculus in all regions, an OHI-S score of 1.83 (medium), and an O'Leary plaque index score of 41.37%. Probing depths ranged from 1 to 5 mm, with positive BOP on almost all teeth. After scaling and root planing, the decision was made to proceed with gingival curettage for the patient.Conclusion: In this case, gingival curettage helped reduce pocket depth and restored the gingiva to a more normal appearance. This demonstrates that gingival curettage can be an effective treatment for chronic periodontitis.

Abstract

Introduction: Gingival pigmentation can result from melanin deposits in the gingival epithelial layer. This condition is caused by tobacco in cigarettes, which stimulates melanin production by melanocytes, leading to pigmentation changes in the gingiva. Gingival depigmentation is a procedure aimed at removing pigmentation from the gingiva to achieve improved aesthetic outcomes. Purpose: This case report aims to discuss the management of gingival depigmentation cases using the scalpel method in patients with smoker's melanosis. Case presentation: A 21-year-old male patient presented with complaints of brownish discoloration on his upper and lower gingiva, which he had noticed for approximately 2 years ago. Gingival depigmentation was performed using the scraping technique to remove the gingival hyperpigmentation. Conclusion: Gingival depigmentation using the scalpel technique is a recommended treatment with a simple technique and tools, easy to perform, economical, and can restore gingival aesthetics.

Abstract

Pharaoh is a title for the king of Egypt that is often coupled with the story of the Prophet Moses. With the strongest opinion stating that the Pharaoh at the time of the Prophet Moses was Ramesses II. He was the king of Egypt who held the longest power and was very obsessed with power. Various ways were done to realize his wishes, even though it harmed many people. The Quran recorded Pharaoh's actions that were beyond the limits of humanity, including; QS. an-Nazi'at: 24 (claiming to be God), QS. al-Baqarah: 49 (killing sons), QS. Taha: 71 (crucifying the hands of sorcerers), and QS. al-Qasas: 4 (dividing the people of Egypt). All of these atrocities were committed when Pharaoh held power. By using library research method and maudhu'i interpretation method, this article examines Pharaoh's cruel behavior from psychology, namely, personality disorder theory. It can be concluded that the mufasirs describe Pharaoh's personality as arrogant and dictatorial. Because of his personality, Pharaoh committed many cruel behaviors. Based on psychology, Pharaoh's behavior is included in abnormal behavior, he has a personality disorder based on characteristics including: acting violently (QS. al-Baqarah: 49), feeling fear (QS. al-Ghafir: 71), trying to influence individuals by controlling all subconscious desires and ideas (QS. al-Qasas: 4), never feeling guilty and sorry after hurting or harming others, having many requests (QS. al-A'raf: 106 and 134, QS. Taha: 58, QS. al-Qasas: 38), and selfishness.

Abstract

Introduction: Gingiva is a mucous membrane that is closely attached to the periosteum of the jaw. The color of the gingiva varies, it ranges from pink to dark brown. Melanin is the most common natural pigment that contributes to endogenous gingival pigmentation. The degree of pigmentation depends on a few factors. This gingival hyperpigmentation is considered a normal variation, but the discoloration is aesthetically displeasing to some patients. Thus, surgical intervention may be necessary. Purpose: Report the procedure of gingival depigmentation using a scalpel in a 39-year-old woman with gingival hyperpigmentation.. Case presentation: A 39-year-old female visited the Hospital complaining that her upper front gums were dark brown since 1 year ago. Clinical examination showed brown discoloration of the anterior attached gingiva of the upper and lower jaws. Based on clinical and radiographic examinations, the patient was diagnosed with generalized chronic periodontitis accompanied by gingival hyperpigmentation in the anterior maxilla and mandible. In the nonsurgical phase, scaling was carried out, oral hygiene education was performed. After that, gingival depigmentation surgery was performed using the scrapping technique. Follow-up was carried out after surgery. Satisfactory results were obtained, marked by the clinical appearance, rapid healing and the patient felt comfortable with minimal pain during the healing process. Conclusion: Scalpel technique is one of the procedures performed in cases of gingival hyperpigmentation. This technique can restore the aesthetics of the patient's gingiva in a simple, safe and non-invasive way and shows satisfactory results and has a fast wound healing time.
