Abstract

Menstruation is a monthly occurrence during the reproductive period which sometimes causes discomfort called dysmenorrhea. Dark chocolate and cinnamon are known to have good analgesic properties. Many efforts have been made to provide dark chocolate and extra cinnamon to reduce dysmenorrhea. However, the combination of the two has never been done, researchers have developed an innovative cinnamon chocolate product to reduce dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. Objective to determine the effect of cinnamon chocolate, prostaglandin levels and the degree of menstrual pain in adolescent girls. True-experiment research with pretest posttest control group design. Study population of adolescent girls at SMPN 3 Kota Sungai Penuh. The total population is all female adolescent students with a total sample of 40 respondents divided into 2 groups. Intervention group was consuming cinnamon chocolate 40 g/day with 5 mg cinnamon content for 3 days. Bivariate analysis using Wilcoxon and Man Whitney. Dysmenorrhea pain scores before and after in the intervention group were 7.25 and 2.30, in the control group were 6.85 and 4.90, and there was a significant effect of giving cinnamon chocolate on reducing dysmenorrhea pain (p=0.000). The prostaglandin level scores before and after in the intervention group were 1.377.05 and 499.39, in the control group were 1,260.71 and 909.42, and there was a significant decrease in prostaglandin hormones (p=0.000). Consuming 40 grams of cinnamon chocolate/day for 3 days has a significant effect on reducing dysmenorrhea pain and prostaglandin hormone levels in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Menarche is the first menstrual period experienced by adolescent girls. In recent decades, the age of menarche has tended to occur earlier, which may negatively affect health. Nutritional status, measured by Body Mass Index (BMI), is considered an important factor influencing the age of menarche. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional status (BMI) and age at menarche among adolescent girls at SMPN 3 Sungai Penuh. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted from July to August 2025. A total of 97 adolescent girls were selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through measurements of height and weight and questionnaires, and analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents had a normal age of menarche (81.4%) and normal nutritional status (63.9%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between BMI and age at menarche (p = 0.000). In conclusion, nutritional status is significantly associated with age at menarche among adolescent girls. Maintaining normal nutritional status is important to support healthy reproductive development.

Abstract

Background: The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia has not yet reached the national target of 80%. A mother's readiness to provide breast milk is heavily influenced by internal factors, particularly the level of education and knowledge acquired during pregnancy. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of education and knowledge of third-trimester pregnant women regarding readiness for exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: This research is a quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted on 30 pregnant women selected using total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test at a 95% confidence level (α =0.05). Results: Univariate analysis showed that the majority of respondents had secondary education (40%) and good knowledge (46.7%). Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between education level and exclusive breastfeeding readiness (p=0.012) and a highly significant relationship between knowledge level and exclusive breastfeeding readiness (p=0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the education and knowledge levels of pregnant women and their readiness for exclusive breastfeeding. Health workers are advised to increase the intensity of lactation education in prenatal classes, especially for groups with lower educational backgrounds, to improve exclusive breastfeeding coverageKeywords: : Education, Knowledge, Pregnant Women, Exclusive Breastfeeding
