Abstract

This study aims to analyze: (1) the archetype of motherhood reflected in the character of mother and (2) the role of mother psychological perspective of the character of mother in Niki Caro's “The Mother” (2023). The study uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection from this research method includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. Data analysis of this research method by displaying, explaining, and interpreting using the psychoanalysis theory of Carl Gustav Jung and the relevant approaches related to the archetype of motherhood. The result of the study: (1) the archetype of motherhood reflected in the character of mother in Niki Caro’s “The Mother” (2023) is the representation of the archetype of motherhood about tenderness and affection.; (2) the role of mother psychological perspective of the character of mother is found in various archetypal types namely Persona, mothers often cover up reality in order to see the safety of their daughters; Shadow, the mother character is not only a loving woman but also full of ambition; Anima and Animus (syzygy), The mother character has another archetype namely animus, the mother is like a man, she is a strong woman and never fragile; Hero, The mother character also has the ability to be a hero because she always helps her coworkers and children; Self, The mother character also has a desire for herself.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze: 1) the traumatic experiences affect Alice Hart’s psychological condition in the film The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023), and 2) the psychological reconciliation the character of Alice Hart in the film The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023). This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the film of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023) directed by Glendyn Ivin as the objective research. The data collection methods include watching, reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The researcher utilized Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis to analyze the data through steps of displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The result of this research shows that: 1) the traumatic experiences affect Alice Hart’s psychological condition are traumatic memory, traumatic reaction of grief, panic attack as a reaction to Alice’s trauma, Alice’s anger, and Alice’s emotional reaction, 2) the psychological reconciliation the character of Alice Hart in film The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023) are group support, art therapy, nature therapy.

Abstract

This research aims at analyzing the representation of sexism in Philipa Lowthorpe’s Misbehaviour (2020) and the society’s view towards women in the 1970’s in Philipa Lowthorpe’s Misbehaviour (2020). This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the film of Misbehaviour (2020) directed by Philipa Lowthorpe as the object research. The data collection methods include watching, reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The researcher utilizes Peter Glick and Susan T. Fiske’s theory of Ambivalent Sexism to analyze the data through steps of displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The result of this research shows that: the representation of sexism in in Philipa Lowthorpe’s Misbehaviour (2020) includes hostile sexism behaviors such as women inferiority and sexual objectification, and also benevolent sexism behaviors like paternalism, gender differentiation, and heterosexuality, the society’s view towards women in the 1970s that still restricted and narrow includes the way the society perceives women through the lens of Miss World beauty pageant, the persistence of gender stereotypes that reinforced traditional roles, the acknowledgment of the Women’s Liberation Movement, and the media representation of women during that period.

Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the representation of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy in Aneesh Chaganty’s Run, and the mental condition of the charachter who suffers from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy in Aneesh Chaganty’s Run (2020). The method used in this research is qualitative approach. The object of this study is Aneesh Chaganty’s Run and the subject of this study is the dialogues between the characters and action pictures in Aneesh Chaganty’s Run. In collecting data, the techniques applied by the researcher are watching, reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. To analyze the data, the researcher uses Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy study and Johari window’s theory of psychology. It is done through some steps as displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The result of this research shows that: first, the representations of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy in the main character who suffers from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy exists in this study. Those are; Striving to appear self-sacrificing and devoted, inducing symptom to her child, concerned about child’s health, being very knowledgeable about medical stuff, switch doctors and medical staff, falsifying diseases symptom. Second, the mental condition of the charachter who suffers from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy reflect a balance and wholeness of her personality. It is described through 3 points, those are; manipulative behaviour, maladaptive daydreaming behaviour, and suffered from depression.

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyse: (1) the symptoms of bipolar disorder as reflected in the main character of Spinning Out (2020) series, and (2) the mental condition of the main character as a bipolar sufferer reflected in the Spinning Out (2020) series. The researcher uses the qualitative method to examine the problem. The object of this study is the character Kat Baker in the Spinning Out (2020) series. The data used in this study is collected by the researcher through some steps, namely watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. In order to answer the problem statement and draw a conclusion from this study, the selected data is analyzed by the researcher through some steps, namely displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The approach and theory that the researcher uses to analyze the problem is psychology of literature and psychoanalysis. The result of this study shows that (1) the symptoms of bipolar disorder as reflected in the main character of Spinning Out (2020) series are depicted through various characteristics that occur in depressive and manic episode, anxiety, low self-esteem, libido issues, and self-harm; and (2) the mental condition of the main character as a bipolar sufferer makes her become an impulsive and overprotective person.

Abstract

This study is aim to analyze: (1) the representation of characters in Edgar Allan Poe’s works in The Pale Blue Eye (2022) film, and (2) the similarities and dissimilarities between the biography and the character of Edgar Allan Poe in The Pale Blue Eye (2022) film. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the film entitled The Pale Blue Eye directed by Scott Cooper as the objective research. The collecting data of the research method includes watching, reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The researcher analyzes the data by using Linda Hutcheon’s theory of Adaptation and Transformation. It is done through some steps as displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The result of this research shows that: (1) the representation of some of Edgar Allan Poe’s works in The Pale Blue Eye includes “The Premature Burial,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Pit and The Pendulum,” “Lenore,” “The Gold-Bug,” and “Landor’s Cottage.” These works serve as crucial elements in establishing the main characters, including Augustus Landor, Edgar Allan Poe, and Lea Marquis, contributing to the portrayal of their personalities, motivations, and relationships; (2) there are similarities between the character depicted in the film and the real life Poe, such as an interest in poetry, French language skills, training at the West Point Military Academy, and alcohol preference and there are also differences, such as involvement in murder investigation, military discipline, financial problems, family relationships, and literary recognition.
