Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder, is characterized by persistent synovial inflammation, erosion of bone and cartilage, leading to joint destruction. It can attack the joints and other parts of the body such as tendons, ligaments, and bones. In serious cases, it can affect other organs such as the lungs, heart, nervous system, and eyes. Foot massage is effective to reduce pain. Before implementation of foot massage, the average pain scale was 6 (moderate pain). After implementation of foot massage the pain scale decreased to 2 (mild pain). Through empowering the elderly, the elderly are taught and assisted in performing safe and effective foot massage techniques to reduce pain, improve blood circulation, and reduce joint stiffness due to rheumatoid arthritis. The conclusion of this community service activity shows that the use of foot massage is effective for patients with rheumatoid arthritis who experience pain.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic heterogeneous metabolic disorder with complex pathogenesis. It is characterized by elevated blood glucose levels or hyperglycemia, which results from abnormalities in either insulin secretion or insulin action or both. Prevention of diabetic foot ulcers is to empower families to take care for family members with diabetes. The results of the pre-test obtained showed that family knowledge was in the good category of 55.6%. After education was carried out on the role of families in caring for diabetic patients, especially preventing diabetic foot ulcers, the results showed that there was an increase in family knowledge of 70.4%. Families empowered to carry out their roles by helping families with diabetes to meet their diet, motivating them to do physical activity and supporting them to carry out routine health checks. The conclusion of this community service activity is that family empowerment is very useful for preventing diabetic foot ulcers.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder characterized by a decrease in bone density and strength, making bones more fragile and susceptible to fractures. People with osteoporosis often complain of pain. One of the pain management methods for osteoporosis patients is progressive muscle relaxation. This community service activity empowers the public to practice progressive muscle relaxation techniques. The pre-test results showed that the majority of the community’s knowledge about osteoporosis and pain management was in the poor category, at 79.5%. After education and simulation of the progressive muscle relaxation technique were conducted, there was an increase in the community’s knowledge about osteoporosis and pain management, with 61.4% in the good category. The conclusion of this community service activity is that empowering the community to independently perform progressive muscle relaxation techniques is very beneficial in reducing pain in people with osteoporosis.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a type of bone metabolism disorder in which bone density decreases, leading to porous and fragile bones that are easily fractured. The risk factors for osteoporosis include increasing age (over 60 years) and gender (more common in women). The clinical manifestations experienced by individuals with osteoporosis include back pain. One of the interventions that can be implemented to reduce pain is progressive muscle relaxation. This study employed a quasi-experimental design. The population and sample consisted of 28 elderly individuals divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The results showed that after progressive muscle relaxation was performed, there was a significant effect in reducing pain in the experimental group, with a p-value of 0.040.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder characterized by decreased bone density, resulting in brittle, porous, and easily broken bones. This condition is more common in the elderly, especially women over 60 years of age, due to hormonal changes, the aging process, and lifestyle factors. Common clinical manifestations experienced by sufferers include back pain that can interfere with daily activities and reduce quality of life. Osteoporosis treatment does not only rely on pharmacological therapy, but can also be done through non-pharmacological therapies such as progressive muscle relaxation techniques that aim to reduce muscle tension and pain perception. This study aims to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation techniques on pain reduction in elderly osteoporosis sufferers in Bangun Rejo Village, Tanjung Morawa District, North Sumatra Province. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group design. The study involved 28 elderly respondents who met the inclusion criteria, divided into two groups: an experimental group that received progressive muscle relaxation intervention and a control group that did not receive intervention. The intervention was carried out in a structured manner according to standard procedures throughout the study period. Pain levels were measured using a numeric pain scale before and after treatment. Data analysis showed a significant reduction in pain levels in the experimental group compared to the control group, with a p-value of 0.040. These results indicate that progressive muscle relaxation techniques are effective as a non-pharmacological method for reducing pain in elderly people with osteoporosis. The findings of this study are expected to provide input for healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, in developing simple, safe, and affordable interventions to improve the quality of life of elderly people with osteoporosis, as well as encourage the routine implementation of this therapy in primary and community healthcare settings.

Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease.. This system attacks joints and other parts of the body such as tendons, ligaments, and bones. One implementation of reducing rheumatoid arthritis pain is to massage the feet of the painful joints. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The population in this study was 48 people and the research sample was 20 people with two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. The results of the study were obtained after rheumatoid arthritis foot massage had a significant effect in reducing pain in the experimental group with a p-value of 0.007. Foot massage on painful joints has benefits in reducing the pain scale in the elderly.
