Abstract

This study was conducted in response to the scarcity of Arabic research on psychotherapeutic interventions for schizophrenia compared to pharmacological treatments, which are more prevalent in Western societies. It thus represents a significant scientific contribution to this field. The study aims to enhance the social skills of individuals with schizophrenia and facilitate their reintegration into society through the implementation of a therapeutic program at Ibn Al-Hassan Psychiatric Hospital in Fez. A clinical case study approach was adopted, with a sample comprising three male patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Data collection tools included clinical observation, medical history analysis, clinical interviews, and pre- and post-assessments using a social skills scale. The collected data were analyzed by comparing pre- and post-test results to measure the program’s effectiveness. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the participants’ social skills, allowing them to interact more effectively with their surroundings and reintegrate into their family environments following a reduction in the severity of their symptoms. Some initial resistance to therapy was observed due to auditory and visual hallucinations, but these diminished after three to four sessions. The study confirmed the effectiveness of psychoeducational therapy in improving social skills among individuals with schizophrenia, contributing to their reintegration and reducing relapse risks. Furthermore, it underscored the need to expand Arabic research in this field to develop more effective therapeutic interventions.

Abstract

The selection of this study was driven by a desire to analyze the psychological and social dimensions faced by couples in the context of breast cancer and how this illness affects their relationship. Additionally, the study aims to clarify the husband's role in supporting his wife throughout this challenging journey. The research seeks to understand the impact of the disease on marital relationships and how couples adapt to emotional and health-related changes. It relies on a systematic review of previous studies that explored the psychological and social effects of breast cancer, incorporating a selection of scientific research on couples facing the disease. The findings indicate that couples with effective communication and active participation in the treatment process are better equipped to adapt. Furthermore, shared medical decision-making, mutual emotional support, and joint coping strategies play a crucial role in reducing emotional distress. The study concludes that emotional support from the husband is a key factor in enhancing the wife's quality of life and enabling her to cope with her condition. This highlights the importance of developing counseling programs for spouses to help them navigate the challenges associated with the disease.

Abstract

Studying a woman's cancer diagnosis and its impact on marital relationships, along with the husband's role in supporting her, is crucial due to the widespread prevalence of this disease and the significant marital challenges it can cause, sometimes even leading to divorce. This research analyzes the psychological and social challenges couples face, examines the illness's impact on their relationship, and highlights the husband's supportive role during this difficult period. Notably, the husband is also vulnerable to emotional setbacks, highlighting his need for psychological support as well. This research includes a systematic review of previous studies on couples facing breast cancer, employing both descriptive and analytical methodologies. The findings indicate that religious values and personal beliefs can serve as therapeutic tools, helping couples cope with the emotional trauma casused by the illness. Additionally, shared medical decision-making, mutual emotional support, and joint coping strategies play a vital role in reducing emotional distress. The study further concludes that the husband's emotional support is a key factor in enhancing the wife's quality of life. These findings underscore the need for counseling programs for spouses to help them navigate the challenges associated with the disease effectively.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the need to examine the psychological distress experienced by cancer patients, and to understand how the illness affects different aspects of their daily lives—particularly emotional, social, and cognitive domains. It aims to highlight the role of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in alleviating symptoms of depression and promoting mental well-being, while also emphasizing the importance of sustained psychological support for this vulnerable group. The study further seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of ACT in enhancing psychological flexibility—a crucial factor in helping patients adapt to the ongoing challenges of illness—and to underscore the significance of integrated psychological interventions involving collaboration between medical and mental health professionals. To achieve these objectives, the study presents a critical review and analysis of prior research on acceptance- and mindfulness-based interventions, focusing on key theoretical concepts, outcomes, and implications for practice. The findings suggest that ACT-based programs contribute significantly to improving psychological flexibility, which, in turn, supports better emotional regulation, coping skills, and overall quality of life. Moreover, the integration of psychological therapy into cancer treatment protocols contributes to providing comprehensive support for patients and enables medical teams to effectively address the psychological and social challenges associated with the cancer experience.
