Abstract

Several obstacles hinder the development of a culture of literacy, including a lack of school facilities and teachers' skills. These challenges are further compounded for students whose parents are Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), who are vulnerable to psychological impacts such as anxiety, depression, and low emotional support due to the absence of parents. This community service activity aims to analyze the increasing level of partner empowerment in the field of literacy culture and the psychological impact on students. This activity focuses on community service activities. Subjects involved 50 teachers. Data collection methods used included questionnaires and interviews with students and teachers. The instrument used was a questionnaire sheet. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. This activity demonstrated that implementing a community-based literacy program and teacher training to address students' psychological issues were effective in improving literacy culture and students' emotional well-being. It was concluded that students participating in the literacy program showed increased reading interest and academic performance. At the same time, teacher-provided psychological support helped mitigate the emotional impact of having PMI parents. Schools in other regions can adopt this intervention model to holistically improve the quality of education and student well-being.

Abstract

Penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka menuntut guru untuk lebih adaptif, kreatif, dan inovatif dalam merancang pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang berpusat pada kebutuhan siswa. Namun, praktik pembelajaran masih didominasi metode konvensional sehingga siswa kurang aktif, mudah cemas, dan kesulitan menguasai kosakata. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas program Sing and Have Fun with English dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata sekaligus menurunkan kecemasan siswa melalui pelatihan berbasis lagu dan permainan digital bagi guru sekolah dasar. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain participatory action. Subjek adalah 55 guru yang mengikuti lima tahapan pelatihan yaitu sosialisasi, pelatihan, penerapan teknologi, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Instrumen berupa kuesioner skala Likert 1–4 sebanyak 14 butir serta tes pre-test dan post-test. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji paired sample t-test, dan perhitungan N-Gain. Hasil menunjukkan rata-rata skor pre-test sebesar 2.60 meningkat menjadi 3.72 pada post-test. Uji paired sample t-test menunjukan terdapat perbedaan signifikan sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan. Nilai N-Gain termasuk kategori tinggi, sehingga pelatihan terbukti efektif meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam mengintegrasikan media lagu serta berdampak pada meningkatnya motivasi, kosakata, dan kepercayaan diri siswa. Implikasinya, program ini dapat menjadi strategi alternatif dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar.
