Abstract

This research aims to examine Syuhadi Ismail's thoughts related to the analysis of the Prophet's hadith that prioritizes textual and contextual approaches. The focus of the research is to understand how Syuhadi Ismail combines traditional and modern approaches in understanding hadith, as well as its impact on the development of contemporary hadith studies. This research aims to identify the contribution of his thoughts in dealing with the dynamics of modern society which often requires an understanding of hadith that is relevant to the context of the times. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through a literature study of Syuhadi Ismail's works, including books, articles, and interviews, as well as secondary references from previous research related to this topic. The data were then critically analyzed to identify Syuhadi's thought patterns in applying textual and contextual approaches. The results show that Syuhadi Ismail has an important contribution in balancing between literal understanding of hadith and adjustments to social reality. This thinking opens a space for dialogue between tradition and modernity in hadith studies. Syuhadi's textual approach emphasizes accuracy in understanding the hadith text, while his contextual approach highlights the importance of considering the historical, social, and cultural background when the hadith was delivered. The implication of this research is to provide a foundation for academics and practitioners in developing hadith studies that are adaptive to changing times without ignoring the essence of Islam. Syuhadi Ismail's thought becomes an important model in presenting hadith interpretation that is relevant, moderate, and contributive to the development of Islamic society in the era of globalization. This research contributes to Islamic scientific literature by enriching perspectives in the study of the Prophet's hadith.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Islamic education measured through the intensity of formal madrasah activities and non-formal majelis taklim activities on religiosity as indicated by ritual practices and the internalization of values and social participation as indicated by mutual aid and social concern among the residents of Ay Island, Banda Neira. The response to modernization serves as the backdrop for this study in this island region with limited access. Using a quantitative correlational approach, the sample was selected through proportional random sampling, comprising 100 respondents including religious leaders, educators, and the general public across all ages and genders. Questionnaire data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Statistical test results indicate that Islamic education has a positive and significant effect on religiosity R² = 0.465, p = 0.000 and social participation R² = 0.374, p = 0.003. Simultaneously, the two variables contributed 54% F = 15.284, p = 0.000 to social participation, with no significant differences in influence found among the respondents’ professional groups. These findings confirm that Islamic education serves as a foundation for strengthening social solidarity. Nevertheless, this study has limitations regarding generalizability because it focuses on only one island, has not explored local cultural and economic factors, and is susceptible to social desirability bias regarding issues of religiosity. It is recommended that local governments develop policies to strengthen non-formal institutions, and it is suggested that future researchers use qualitative or longitudinal approaches to explore the underlying causes and the subjective motivations of the community.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between gender and the development of Islam on Ay Island, Banda Neira, from a socio-religious perspective. The main focus of this research is the role of men and women in religious life, Islamic education, and their involvement in socio-religious practices. This research uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Data were obtained through surveys, interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis of the history of Islamic development on Ay Island. The results show that there are differences in participation between men and women in various socio-religious aspects. In religious leadership, 85% of formal positions are still dominated by men, while women are more active in informal Islamic education such as pengajian and madrasah, with 72% of community-based activities managed by women. However, only 35% of women hold leadership positions in formal socio-religious organizations. In addition, 64% of women feel they have limited access to large-scale religious activities, although 78% of communities have shown increased acceptance of women's active role in socio-religious activities. The implications of this study show that although Islam on Ay Island provides space for women's participation, there are still gaps in access and formal leadership. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase women's involvement in wider religious activities through more inclusive policies and strengthening women's capacity in leadership. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of gender dynamics in coastal Muslim communities and provide insights for academics and policy makers in developing Islam-based gender empowerment strategies.   REFERENCES Aldi, Muhammad, and Ahmad Barizi. “Filsafat Ilmu Dalam Perspektif Budaya Alam Minangkabau: Membangun Kearifan Lokal Untuk Pengembangan Pengetahuan.” Teaching and Learning Journal of Mandalika (Teacher) e-ISSN 2721-9666 6, no. 1 (2025): 212–21. https://doi.org/10.36312/teacher.v6i1.4124 Aldi, Muhammad, and Akhmad Nurul Kawakib. “Reconstruction of Islamic Education Philosophy in Minangkabau Customary Values: Actualizing the Principles of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah.” JIIP-Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pendidikan 8, no. 2 (2025): 1548–57. https://doi.org/10.54371/jiip.v8i2.6902 Aldi, Muhammad, and Retisfa Khairanis. “The Synergy of Religion and Malay Culture in Improving the Empowerment of Islamic Communities Towards Achieving SDGS.” PERADA 7, no. 2 (2024). https://doi.org/10.35961/perada.v7i2.1758 Aldi, Muhammad, and Moh Toriquddin. “History of Thought Syuhudi Ismail: A Study of Textual and Contextual Analysis of Prophetic Hadiths.” J-CEKI: Jurnal Cendekia Ilmiah 4, no. 2 (2025): 1723–32. https://doi.org/10.56799/jceki.v4i2.7141 Berryman, Alex J, Andrew J Spencer, Puja Sharma, and James A Eaton. “A Taxonomic Revision of Banda Myzomela Myzomela Boiei (S.
