Abstract

This study explores the manuscript titled Fatḥ al-Ghawāmiḍ fī Sharḥ Kāfiya al-Farā’iḍ, written by Kiai Zainullah, a prominent Islamic scholar from Malang. The manuscript serves as a commentary on Kāfiya al-Farā’iḍ, a compilation of naẓm on Islamic inheritance law (‘ilm al-farā’iḍ), composed by the same author. Using a philological approach, this study analyzes the textual structure, content, and historical significance of Fatḥ al-Ghawāmiḍ, highlighting its role in the scholarly tradition of Indonesian pesantren. The study finds that the manuscript follows the classical method of Islamic scholarship, incorporating references to authoritative fiqh texts and employing a systematic explanatory style. Additionally, the work reflects the broader textual culture of pesantren, where the transmission of Islamic knowledge is maintained through the study of kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts). This research contributes to the understanding of Islamic legal manuscripts, especially on Islamic inheritance law, in Indonesia and emphasizes the importance of preserving the intellectual heritage of Nusantara scholars.

Abstract

The idea of a pesantren that accommodates philosophy in its curriculum seems to be a strange one still. The data in Direktorat Madrasah Diniyah dan Pondok Pesantren (The Directorate of Islamic Education and Pesantren) doesn't mention a kind of such pesantren whatsoever. The existence of Pesantren Luhur Baitul Hikmah changes that impression, so it is important to reveal the background of this pesantren and how philosophy is taught in it. To fulfill these goals, this research is designed to be qualitative that collects its data by observations, interviews and documentations and analyzes them by using Miles and Hubermann's technique. This research found that Pesantren Luhur Baitul Hikmah became so accommodative to philosophy because it was originally a discussion group that evolved to be a pesantren. Philosophy was taught there by using three methods inspired by Qur'anic verses 96:1-5. First, the bandongan teaching method through Arabic philosophical texts. Second, the discussion method comprises weekly discussion and accidental discussion. Third, the learning-through-writing method which has already become a cultural habit there due to the exemplary of the kiai, the proliferation of social media, and the more affordable printing costs.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is a crucial aspect of academic success, yet attention to this issue within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) remains severely limited. This community service project aims to enhance mental health awareness and literacy among students (santri) at Sirojul Ulum As-Sarqowi Pesantren in Gondanglegi, Malang. The intervention method was executed in three primary stages: preparation, implementation of social advocacy utilizing interactive lectures and the "Botak-Batuk-Batik" educational game, and evaluation. The program engaged 40 participants, including junior and senior high school-aged santri and school administrators, in collaboration with the Youth Counseling and Information Center (PIKR) of Universitas Al-Qolam. The results demonstrate that integrating interactive lectures with educational games effectively mitigated boredom while facilitating the students' understanding of stress management and identification of mental health disorders. In conclusion, this interactive approach successfully fostered initial mental health awareness among students and established a foundation for sustainable collaboration between the pesantren and external youth empowerment organizations to optimize the students' learning process.
