Abstract

Ducted propeller is an engineered propeller drive which aimed to enhance thrust force. Many ways can be done in purpose to enhance thrust force, such as geometry variation in term of Ld/D ratio. Ld/D ratio is a ratio between duct length and duct diameter. In this research, an analysis was conducted using numerical simulation. This research used two Ld/D ratio (0.4 and 0.5) and three propeller angular velocities as the variables (1000, 3000, and 5000 rpm). The result of this research showed that higher Ld/D ratio produced higher thrust force. At 5000 rpm the thrust fore increased 26.3% on duct with Ld/D ratio of 0.5. Moreover, higher propeller angular velocity produce higher fluid velocity at the ducted propeller outlet. The highest fluid velocity reached at 5000 rpm propeler angular velocity with the value of 9.8 and 10.8 m/s.Keywords: ducted propeller; Ld/D ratio; numerical simulation; thrust force

Abstract

This community service program aimed to design and implement a coconut grating machine to enhance the production capacity of a coconut-grating small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) in Dukuhwaluh, Banyumas Regency. The main challenge faced by the partner was low productivity due to the use of conventional grating methods, which required relatively long processing times and offered limited production capacity. The implementation methods included an initial survey and field observation, machine design and fabrication, functional testing, and assistance during the machine adoption process. The machine was designed using a 200 W electric motor coupled with a belt and pulley transmission system to ensure stable, safe, and user-friendly operation. Testing results showed that the machine achieved an average grating capacity of 20 kg/h, representing an improvement over the previous method, which could only process approximately 16 kg/h. The implementation of the machine increased SME productivity by 25% and reduced the grating processing time by 20%. The machine's electricity consumption was recorded at 0.22 kWh per hour of operation, making it economically feasible for small-scale enterprises. From an economic perspective, the use of the machine is estimated to increase business revenue by 20%. Overall, the implementation of this appropriate technology-based coconut grating machine has proven effective in improving production efficiency and effectiveness, increasing production capacity, and generating positive economic impacts for the partner SME. The results demonstrate that the adoption of appropriate technology can serve as an effective solution for enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of micro-enterprises in the Dukuhwaluh area

Abstract

The Wadaslintang Dam is a strategic infrastructure in Wonosobo and Kebumen Regencies, Central Java, carrying a high downstream hazard risk if a structural failure occurs. This condition demands enhanced community preparedness through Emergency Action Plan socializations and stronger active participation in area management. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and involvement of residents around the dam and catchment area to support sustainable management. Implementation methods included surveys, observations, socializations, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. Face-to-face sessions provided in-depth understanding of emergency procedures and the importance of disaster risk reduction. Program effectiveness was measured using pre-test and post-test instruments. Evaluation results recorded a significant surge in understanding, shown by an average score increase from 63.33 to 85.33. This proves face-to-face methods effectively foster two-way communication and interactive discussions, successfully strengthening community capacity to respond to emergencies while preserving the environment.
