Abstract

Abstract

The implementation of character education at SD Negeri 41 Bengkulu City, particularly in teaching the values of honesty and responsibility through religious studies, has had a positive impact on students' character development. Despite challenges, such as limited learning time and lack of variety in teaching methods, students perceive significant benefits from this character education. Students expressed that character education does not only teach theory but also internalizes the values in their daily lives. However, the main challenge faced is the limited time allocated for religious studies, which hinders more in-depth teaching of the values of honesty and responsibility. In addition, the diverse teaching methods applied by teachers, such as lectures and discussions, are sometimes not interesting enough for students. The limited learning media used is also an inhibiting factor that affects students' interest in the subject matter. The evaluation conducted does not yet reflect a thorough understanding of student character, as the main focus is more on academic grades. The diversity of students' backgrounds and the lack of parental support are also inhibiting factors in the optimal implementation of character education. Therefore, to overcome these challenges, a more adequate evaluation of time allocation is needed, as well as the use of more varied teaching methods and involving support from parents. Despite the obstacles, the implementation of character education that emphasizes the values of honesty and responsibility is expected to continue to grow and have a positive influence on student character in the future.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the practice of active tolerance in the multicultural school in Bengkulu City. The school is known, for its diversity, being a multicultural institution with students of diverse ethnicities and religions. This research employed a qualitative research with a case study design involving school principals, Islamic teachers, students, and parents of students at SMA Sint Carolus, Bengkulu City. Data were collected through participatory observation to understand school interactions, in-depth interviews, and document analysis to understand the school's curriculum and religious materials. Using qualitative research methods with a field research approach provides more space to explore the implementation of active tolerance more deeply in Catholic schools. This study showed that the implementation of three strategic efforts, the Dual Lens Curriculum, the Empathy Circle Forum, and the Communal Solution Project, significantly transformed students' character from passive tolerance to inclusive active tolerance. The findings revealed that strengthening cognitive flexibility through multi-perspective materials and developing radical empathy in a safe encounter space successfully broke down prejudice and primordial barriers in multicultural schools. The implications of this research emphasized the importance of synergy between schools and families. This research proved that respect for self-identity rooted in the home was the main key in building organic solidarity and sustainable harmony in Bumi Rafflesia.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine how well students understand mathematical concepts and what factors affect student ability in the economics mathematics course in the Islamic economics study program. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research are Islamic economics students from semester 2E. The subjects were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Qualitative data on students' mathematical concept understanding were obtained through observation, documentation, tests, and interviews. Before analyzing the data, the researcher conducted data source triangulation. The data analysis technique in this study involves three stages: reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing from the data. The research results classify students' mathematical concept understanding test scores into three categories: high ability, moderate ability, and low ability. For students in the high ability category, they can master all indicators of conceptual understanding, namely Rephrasing concepts, Applying concepts algorithmically, Providing examples or counterexamples of concepts, Presenting concepts in various representations, and Relating various concepts to their everyday life. Students in the moderate ability category are able to master 3 indicators: Rephrasing concepts, Applying concepts algorithmically, Providing examples or counterexamples of concepts. Students in the low ability category can only master 2 indicators, which are Rephrasing concepts, and Providing examples or counterexamples of concepts. Additionally, there are internal and external factors that influence students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Internal factors include self-confidence, interest in learning, and motivation to learn, while external factors include educational background and teaching methods.
