Abstract

Fishing in the waters of Palang Tuban are continuously carried out, one of which is the capture of jengki anchovies (Stolephorus indicus). The purse seine fishing gear is a productive and efficient tool for capturing jengki anchovies without requiring a fish aggregation device (FAD). Fishermen in Palang Waters often experience varying results, where some catch a large amount of fish, while others catch much less. Some fishermen operate their gear for shorter or longer periods, but this does not guarantee a higher catch. This study aims to determine the operational time of the purse seine gear on the catch of jengki anchovies, and also to examine the effect of different operational times on the catch. Data was collected through experiments with two different treatments, each repeated 16 times, totaling 32 data points. The main parameter analyzed in this study was the quantity or weight of the catch. The research method used was experimental fishing with t-test analysis. The results of the t-test with 16 repetitions at 04:00-10:00 WIB and 07:00-13:00 WIB showed average catches of 1.391 kg and 1.234 kg, respectively, with a significance (2-tailed) value of 0.340 > 0.05. The t-test results indicate that H0 is accepted, and H1 is rejected, meaning there is no significant difference between the two time periods.

Abstract

Morotai Island Regency is a coastal village so that this area is rich in the potential of marine natural resources, especially fish resources. Generally, fishermen in Morotai Island Regency in utilizing fish resources are still traditional in nature where the average fisherman still uses simple fishing gear, namely a handline using bait as a lure of fish in tuna fishing operations. The benefit to be obtained is to provide information to fishermen about the catch of a handline with the use of different artificial bait as an effective bait, therefore the purpose of this study is 1) Knowing the effect of different types of artificial bait on yellow fin catches ( Thunnus albacares) using a fishing gear (handline) and; 2) Determine the conclusion of artificial bait that is more effective and has the potential to get the catch for use on the fishing gear (handline). This research was located in the waters of Daeo Majiko Village, Morotai Island Regency. The research time was 2 months. This research was conducted using the experimental fishing method with a Randomized Group Design (RAK). The data collected was processed using the ANOVA test, where the aim was to find significant differences between the 3 different types of bait which were the highest baits in obtaining catches during the research.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the species of fish caught by bottom longline and the composition of the number of fish species. The implementation time was carried out on December 11, 2024 - January 11, 2025 at Brondong Port, Lamongan Regency. The method used in this study is the method eksperimental fishing by conducting direct observation of the catch of bottom longline fishing gear. then conducting direct observation of the number of tails and weight of the catch and conducting direct interviews with bottom longline fishermen who operate their longline fishing gear in the waters of Brondong. The results of the bottom longline catch during the research at PPN Brondong which was landed in December 2024, there were 4 types of species caught by the bottom longline fishing gear, namely the swordtail shark ( rhizoprionodon acutus), Manyung Fish (arius thalassinus), Flower Ray (Taeniura lymma) and Remang (congresox talabonoides).

Abstract

Bait is an important factor in luring fish to hook on the hook. The aim is to find out the effect of the differences between artificial bait and natural bait for mackerel on mackerel fish catches and to find out which bait is more optimal for mackerel fish catches. The method used in this research is the Experimental Fishing method by making direct observations of the treatments tried when operating trolling equipment with artificial bait that resembles fish, then making direct observations of the number of mackerel fish caught and conducting direct interviews with fishermen. The results of the analysis based on the T test results on the artificial and natural bait treatments can be concluded that the two-sided p value is greater than 0.05, so the results do not reject the null hypothesis. This means there is no significant difference between the two types of artificial bait and natural flowerfish bait. Then, to determine the success of the catch in both treatments, a hook rate test was carried out. The total number of catches during the research for fishing rods using artificial bait had a hook rate of 56.25% and fishing rods using natural bait had a hook rate of 37.5%. From the catches, it can be seen that those who use artificial bait that resembles fish have a higher catch or hook rate than those who use natural mackerel bait.kan umpan ikan tenggiri alami.

Abstract

One of the issues in fishing culture, particularly in the capture of blue crabs, is the use of improper fishing gear. Using the wrong fishing gear can damage the marine ecosystem. The type of bait used also significantly affects the catch results. Therefore, this study aims to determine the productivity and efficiency of crab traps (bubu) using petek fish and tembang fish as bait to catch blue crabs at the Tanjung Kait Dock, Tangerang, Banten. To assess the efficiency, these two baits were compared using the same fishing gear in the same fishing area, so the most efficient bait for catching blue crabs at the Tanjung Kait Dock, Tangerang, Banten, could be identified. The results of this study show that the type of bait, either petek fish or tembang fish, has an effect on the blue crab catch at the Tanjung Kait Dock. The treatment using petek fish resulted in an average catch of 2.5 kilograms more than the tembang fish.

Abstract

Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country has significant fisheries potential, one of which is through the Nizam Zachman Ocean Fishing Port (PPS) in Jakarta. This port is a central hub for fish landing and distribution in the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings, particularly with the use of purse seine fishing gear. This study aims to analyze the composition of fish catches using purse seine at the Nizam Zachman Ocean Fishing Port and identify the species caught. The research method includes direct observation of the catch, documentation, and weighing of each fish species. Primary data is obtained from field observations, while secondary data is gathered from relevant literature. Composition analysis is carried out by calculating the percentage of each fish species relative to the total catch, using the formula Kj = (Ni/N) x 100%. During the study, with a sample of 67 vessels, 31 fish species were recorded, with dominant species including skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) at 55.42%, scads (Decapterus spp.) at 14.11%, bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) at 13.55%, and yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) at 10.33%. The variation in catches was influenced by fishing season, fishing location, vessel size and operational duration, fishing technology and equipment, and weather conditions.

Abstract

Marine conservation areas play a crucial role in maintaining the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems and fishery resources. However, many fishing vessels still violate regulations by entering and exploiting conservation areas without permission. This study aims to analyze the compliance level of fishing vessels with conservation regulations in the Anambas Islands, identify the factors contributing to non-compliance, and evaluate the effectiveness of the imposed sanctions. The research employs a qualitative and quantitative descriptive approach, utilizing SWOT analysis to assess internal and external factors affecting compliance. Data were collected through vessel movement monitoring using the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS), interviews with fishery inspectors, and analysis of relevant policy documents. The findings indicate that many fishing vessels fail to comply with conservation regulations, mainly due to fish migration into conservation areas, deliberate violations by business operators seeking higher profits, and a lack of understanding among captains regarding conservation boundaries. Additionally, limited human resources and monitoring facilities hinder effective law enforcement. Although sanctions are regulated under Government Regulation No. 85 of 2021, their effectiveness remains low, as evidenced by recurring violations. Therefore, strengthening supervision, optimizing monitoring technology, and raising fishermen’s awareness of conservation regulations are necessary to enhance compliance among fishing vessels and preserve marine ecosystems.
