Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to make efforts to improve the mastery of standard vocabulary for students at Pondok Pesantren Al-Falah Gorontalo.This community service activity uses a mentoring and practice approach. The preparation stages, namely preparation and location survey at the Al-Falah Gorontalo Islamic Boarding School, coordination with the government and the school, preparation of materials, and completion of administration. Furthermore, the implementation procedure is to provide assistance (in the form of explaining standard vocabulary material) to students, applying the crossword puzzle method in standard vocabulary material, and building good relationships with the school. Based on the implementation of the service, it can be seen that students are enthusiastic about finding answers to crossword puzzles. It can be stated that the crossword puzzle method can be used as one of the media in an effort to improve students' vocabulary mastery by being interesting or not boring.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tokoh Bilal dan Nyonya Martopo dalam drama satu babak Orang Kasar karya Anton Chekov yang disadur oleh WS. Rendra menggunakan pendekatan psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud. Fokus kajian diarahkan pada dinamika struktur kepribadian tokoh yang mencerminkan tiga aspek utama: id, ego, dan superego. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik kajian teks. Data diperoleh melalui pembacaan mendalam terhadap naskah drama, lalu dianalisis secara interpretatif berdasarkan teori Freud. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Bilal memperlihatkan dominasi id melalui sikap impulsif, keras kepala, dan agresif. Sebaliknya, Nyonya Martopo didominasi oleh superego yang kaku, tercermin dari sikap moralistik dan keterikatannya pada nilai kesetiaan. Pertemuan keduanya memunculkan konflik batin dan ketegangan psikologis, yang menjadi cerminan peran ego dalam mengatur kompromi antara dorongan naluriah dan kendali moral. Temuan ini memperkuat relevansi teori psikoanalisis Freud dalam memahami konflik batin dan karakterisasi dalam karya sastra.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the semiotic meaning in the poem Tak Sepadan by Chairil Anwar using Ferdinand de Saussure’s theory. The poem was chosen due to its rich symbols and signs that depict emotional conflict and inequality in love. Saussure’s semiotic approach, which divides signs into two main components: the signifier and the signified, is applied to systematically analyze the linguistic relations within the poem. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative with a textual analysis technique. Data were collected through in-depth reading and identification of linguistic signs functioning as signifiers, then interpreted for their signified meanings. The analysis results show that Tak Sepadan contains profound meanings about alienation, suffering, and imbalance in love expressed through symbols such as “Ahasvéros,” “blind wall,” and “the burning fire.” These signifiers form signified concepts that portray the inner torment and marginalization of the poem’s “I” persona. The conclusion confirms that Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory is effective in uncovering latent layers of meaning in poetry, especially in analyzing linguistic signs that construct the emotional and philosophical messages of Chairil Anwar. This study also contributes to the development of literary and semiotic studies in the context of modern Indonesian poetry.
