Abstract

The increasing global demand for food amidst increasingly extreme climate change poses significant challenges to the agricultural sector, particularly in arid lands vulnerable to drought.  Unsustainable water use and improper irrigation practices can negatively impact the physical and chemical properties of soil, threatening agricultural productivity and sustainability. This study aims to analyze the influence of various irrigation practices on the physical and chemical properties of soil in dryland agricultural areas. The research methodology includes measuring physical soil properties such as texture, structure, and water holding capacity, as well as chemical soil analysis to determine salinity levels and nutrient availability. This research investigates the impact of irrigation water use on the physical and chemical properties of agricultural land in Village Afia, District Nort Nias, using a qualitative approach. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with farmers, and analysis of documents related to irrigation practices. The research results indicate a correlation between irrigation patterns and soil conditions. Excessive irrigation water use is associated with increased soil salinity and decreased soil structure, while well-managed irrigation contributes to improved soil fertility. This study highlights the importance of sustainable irrigation management to maintain soil quality and agricultural productivity.

Abstract

The scheduling of plant cultivation that is efficient and sustainable is a crucial aspect of agriculture to maximize agricultural output and maintain environmental sustainability. This study proposes the use of mathematical optimization methods to design a planting schedule that not only considers production factors but also long-term sustainability. The developed model integrates variables such as water requirements, sunlight, soil type, and seasons to ensure optimal plant cultivation. In this research, linear programming techniques and heuristic search algorithms are used to determine the planting schedule that provides the best results, considering resource limitations and ecological impacts. The results of this optimization model show an increase in agricultural production efficiency and contribute to environmental preservation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of rice washing water on the growth of water spinach (Ipomoea reptans). Water spinach is a fast-growing leafy vegetable that is widely consumed by the Indonesian population. Rice washing water is a household waste that contains essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamin B, which can be utilized to fertilize plants. The study was conducted over five days by watering water spinach plants daily using rice washing water. The results showed that water spinach watered with rice washing water grew faster compared to normal conditions, reaching a height of 6 cm on the fifth day. This indicates that rice washing water has a positive effect on plant growth.
