Abstract

This research explores the development of vocabulary in second language acquisition (SLA) by examining how individual differences influence language learning processes. The study synthesizes various theoretical frameworks, including cognitive, sociocultural, and psycholinguistic approaches, and their application in the classroom. By focusing on individual learner characteristics such as motivation, cognitive styles, age, and affective factors, the research aims to understand how these differences shape vocabulary acquisition. The method of this research is a qualitative method using thematic analysis. The results of this study reveal that although SLA theories provide a solid foundation for second language teaching, success in vocabulary acquisition is greatly influenced by factors such as motivation, learning strategies, and cognitive abilities possessed by individual students. Therefore, an understanding of individual differences is crucial in designing effective teaching methods.Keywords: SLA, vocabulary acquisition, teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of slang in English songs as a means to improve students' vocabulary at MTs Nurul Bahri, Bone Bolango. The phenomenon of using slang in English songs is increasingly popular among teenagers, but its understanding and application in the context of foreign language learning has not been widely explored. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through analysis of song lyrics containing slang, as well as interviews with 24 students in VIII grades and teachers to find out the impact of slang use on vocabulary improvement. The results show that the use of slang in English songs can help students in expanding their vocabulary, improve their listening skills, and motivate them to be more interested in learning English. In addition, although slang is often not found in formal dictionaries, an understanding of the proper use of slang can add value to students' language skills in social and cultural contexts. This study suggests that the use of English songs containing slang can be integrated in English learning at school to improve students' language skills in a more contextual and interesting way.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kebutuhan siswa pada materi-materi pengajaran untuk mengembangkan materi bahasa inggris yang berintegrasi pada teknologi untuk mahasiswa sistem informasi; untuk mengembangkan materi berbasis teknologi untuk mahasiswa sistem informasi. Kami menemukan bahwa mata kuliah bahasa inggris di STMIK Ichsan Gorontalo masih umum, dan tidak adanya prkatek kemampuan seperti mendengarkan, membaca, menulis, dan berbicara; kemampuan mahasiswa di universitas tidak optimal dan cenderung menurun dari tahun ke tahun menurut data dari STMIK Ichsan Gorontalo. Ini disebabkan oleh materi yang masih umum di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, materi mengajar bertujuan untuk membantu dosen dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris untuk mempraktekkan kemampuan mendengar, membaca, menulis, dan berbicara. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) yang dilakukan di STMIK Ichsan Gorontalo yang terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa sebagai peserta. Berdasarkan hasil pengembangan materi bahasa inggris setelah tes uji coba, diperoleh hasil yaitu mahasiswa sangat merespon dengan baik dalam menggunakan materi-materi yang sudah disediakan. Materi bahasa inggris yang dikembangkan sudah divakidasi, diuji, dan diperbaiki beberapa kali berdasarkan masukkan dan saran dari para validator. Hasil perbaikan setelah uji coba adalah hasil akhir dari materi bahasa inggris yang sudah disiapkan.
