Abstract

Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill for academic success, yet many students struggle with understanding complex texts, particularly procedural texts, which require sequential comprehension. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Give One Get One (GOGO) strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension of procedure texts. The study employs a quantitative research method using a one-group pre-test and post-test design to measure students’ progress. A total of 32 senior high school students participated in the study. Students underwent three treatment sessions, with their reading comprehension assessed before and after the intervention. The findings indicate that while there was a statistically significant difference in students’ reading comprehension scores, the effect size was very weak. Post-test results showed that some students’ scores declined, suggesting that the GOGO strategy may not be effective for teaching procedural texts. The structured nature of procedure texts may have limited the interactive benefits of the strategy, leading to inconsistent improvements in student performance. These results highlight the need for educators to carefully select instructional strategies based on text type and learning objectives. While GOGO may be effective for certain text genres, it may require modification or supplementation when applied to structured texts like procedural writing. Further research should explore alternative strategies that enhance engagement while maintaining comprehension accuracy.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM yang dilaksanakan oleh Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesi (LSP) Unesa dengan membuat pelatihan uji sertifikasi kompetensi teknis BNSP sebagai sarana peningkatan pengetahuan dan kompetensi keahlian calon tenaga kerja dan siswa SMK masyarakat Kabupaten Madiun. Metode pelaksanaan melalui 5 tahapan, yaitu studi pendahuluan, penyusunan materi, penentuan jadwal pelaksanaan, pelaksanaan kegiatan, dan evaluasi program.Antusias peserta PKM ditinjau dari hasil kuesioner yang dibagikan sebelum dan sesudah pelaksanaan PKM. Berdasarkan kuesioner yang dibagikan, diketahui terdapat peningkatan wawasan dan kompetensi keahlian dari sebelum pelatihan dan setelah pelatihan ditinjau dari butir pertanyaan mengenai wawasan uji kompetensi, skema uji kompetensi, lembaga sertifikasi profesi penyelenggara uji kompetensi, durasi masa aktif sertifikat kompetensi, materi uji kompetensi, asesor uji kompetensi, badan nasional sertifikasi profesi, relevansi sertifikat uji kompetensi dengan kualifikasi pekerjaan yang dilamar, kelengkapan persyaratan dan prosedur uji kompetensi, dan tempat uji kompetensi. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari prosentase pernyataan peserta PKM yang menyatakan setuju/memahami/mengetahui setelah diberikan pelatihan pada butir kuesioner 1 sampai dengan 10 sebesar 100%, 97%, 96%, 100%, 94%, 97%, 100%, 95%, 100%, 98%. Setelah kegiatan ini selesai dilakukan, harapannya masyarakat Pemerintah Kabupaten Madiun semakin menyadari akan pentingnya menambah kompetensi guna meningkatkan daya saing melalui uji kompetensi sehingga dapat memperbesar peluang di dunia kerja sehingga menyejahterakan Ekonomi.
