Abstract

Background: Anemia is a global public health problem affecting both developing and developed countries with major consequences for human health especially adolescent girls who experience rapid growth and blood loss during menstruation. The incidence of anemia in Indonesia and the world currently needs special attention. Examination of hemoglobin and iron is needed as an initial step in early detection and prevention of increased incidence of anemia. Objective: To determine the picture of hemoglobin and iron in adolescent girls living in Malalayang 1 Barat Village. Methods: Descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach on 30 adolescent girls aged 13-17 years taken by purposive sampling. Data were obtained through laboratory examination of hemoglobin and serum iron levels, measurement of body weight and height, and administration of research forms. Results: There were 28 respondents (93.33%) who had normal hemoglobin levels and 2 respondents (6.67%) who had low hemoglobin levels. There were 24 respondents (80%) who had normal serum iron levels and 6 respondents (20%) who had low serum iron levels. Conclusion: The majority of respondents had normal hemoglobin and serum iron levels (80%), but there were a small number of respondents who experienced iron deficiency (13.33%) and experienced iron deficiency anemia (6.67%).

Abstract

Background and Aims: Professional identity is the key to professionalism and a characteristic of health services. Having a good professional identity will be in line with the increase in patient safety and the formation of professional identity has been found to have a positive correlation with motivation. The highs and lows of motivation in students in learning can have an impact on the learning process and achievement results and are influenced by several factors such as age, gender, and the length of the gap year. Purpose: This study aims to determine the correlation between professional identity and motivation in first-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University. Methods: This research uses a quantitative method with analytic-observational studies with cross-sectional methods that are conducted on 236 first-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University, and are analyzed using Spearman Correlation to determine the bivariate correlation between professional identity and motivation. Result: A total of 210 of 236 subjects who met the eligibility criteria were included in this study. The majority of subjects (n=155, 73.8%) were female, the average age of the subjects was 18 years, and the duration of the gap year of subjects was 0 years (n=169, 80.5%). The professional identity of the majority of subjects was found good (n=195, 92.9%) and motivation was found to be high-moderate in the majority of subjects (x̄=55.9, Med=56). Bivariate tests were analyzed using Spearman correlation and obtained a value of rs = 0.503 (p<0.001).Conclusion: There is a positive and significant correlation between professional identity and motivation among first-year medical students in the Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University.

Abstract

Peningkatan kasus diabetes melitus (DM) banyak dipengaruhi oleh tingginya angka berat badan berlebih dan obesitas, yang dapat menurunkan sensitivitas insulin dan mengganggu metabolisme glukosa. Mahasiswi kedokteran rentan mengalami gangguan metabolik akibat pola hidup yang tidak teratur. Status glikemik jangka panjang dinilai melalui HbA1c, yang mencerminkan kadar glukosa darah 2–3 bulan terakhir. Pemantauan kadar HbA1c pada mahasiswi dengan berat badan berlebih dan obesitas diperlukan untuk mengidentifikasi kecenderungan gangguan glikemik sejak awal. Tjuan: Mengetahui gambaran kadar HbA1c pada mahasiswi dengan berat badan berlebih dan obesitas di Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter Angkatan 2023. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel diperoleh menggunakan metode purposive sampling dari 30 mahasiswi yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi, terdiri atas 15 sampel berat badan berlebih dan 15 sampel obesitas. Dari masing-masing 15 sampel berat badan berlebih dan obesitas, 53,3% sampel berat badan berlebih dan 60% sampel obesitas termasuk kategori normal. Proporsi pre-diabetes lebih tinggi pada kelompok berat badan berlebih, sedangkan nilai HbA1c tertinggi ditemukan pada kelompok obesitas. Kesimpulan: Setengah mahasiswi dengan berat badan berlebih dan lebih dari setengah mahasiswi dengan obesitas memiliki kadar HbA1c dalam batas normal
