Abstract

Potency of Some Endophytic Bacteria Isolates for Biocontrol of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp cepae on Shallot Basal root disease (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp cepae) is an important disease in shallot plants which causes high yield losses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of several endophytic bacterial isolates (APE22, APE35, BAT2-2, and MER) originated from ferns, mangroves, and pepper plants to control F. oxysporum f.sp cepae on shallots in in vitro and in planta experiment. The results showed that all bacterial isolates were able to inhibit the growth of F. oxysporum f.sp cepae in vitro with percent inhibition ranging from 37.78% to 83.33% depending on the isolates tested. In planta experiment conducted in a greenhouse showed that endophytic bacteria were able to stimulate the growth of shallot plants and to reduce the incidence and severity of basal root rot disease. Among all the endophytic bacteria tested, isolate BAT2-2 showed the highest ability to suppres disease severity compared to other endophytic isolates.
