Abstract

Background:  Acupuncture therapy has become a popular non-drug therapy with good curative effects, convenient application, non-toxic side effects, and low cost, and it has been widely used in the treatment of Frozen Shoulder. This study aims to analyze and estimate the effect of acupuncture therapy on reducing the degree of pain in Frozen shoulders. Subjects and Method:  This study used a systematic review and meta-analysis by following PICO, Population: Frozen Shoulder patients. Intervention: acupuncture therapy. Comparison: no acupuncture therapy. Result: reduction in the degree of Frozen shoulder pain. The data used was obtained from scientific research articles from electronic databases including PubMed, Google Scholar, Hindawi, BMC, Scopus, and Science Direct Randomized Control Trial (RCT) designs from 2011 to 2022 which report effect sizes with mean and SD. The keywords used in the search for scientific articles are “Acupuncture” AND “Frozen Shoulder” AND “Frozen Shoulder Pain”. The selection of articles was carried out using the PRISMA flowchart. Data were analyzed using Review Manager software version 5.4.1. Results:  A total of 9 articles with eligible RCT designs from Asia and Europe were selected for the systematic review and meta-analysis. The results of the meta-analysis showed that patients with Frozen Shoulders who received acupuncture therapy experienced a degree of pain 0.48 units lower than without acupuncture and was statistically significant (SMD= -0.48; 95% CI= -1.14 to -0.18; p=0.15). Conclusion:  Acupuncture therapy reduces the degree of Frozen Shoulder pain. Keywords:  acupuncture, pain, frozen shoulder. Correspondence: Mehdya Vikia Murti. Abstract

Background: Carpal Tunel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common nerve compression. Some cases of CTS have chronic symptoms. The most common complaint is "Nocturnal Acroparesthesia", which is tingling pain at night. Physiotherapy interventions can be done to relieve CTS complaints, one of which is the use of Kinesiotaping. This study aims to analyze the effect of Kinesiotaping on pain reduction in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome from several previous studies.Subjects and Method: This article is a systematic and meta-analytical study. The study used the PICO model as follows. Population= Patients with Carpal Tunel Syndrome, Intervention= Kinesio taping, Comparison= No Kinesiotaping, and Outcome= Pain Reduction. The articles used in this study were obtained from several databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Semantics and Google Scholar. Articles are collected in a month. The keywords to search for the article were as follows: kinesiotaping OR "kinesio tape" OR pain OR "carpal tunnel syndrome" AND "Randomized controlled trial". The articles included in this study.Results: There are 8 articles included in the meta-analysis research. These eight articles from several countries including Turkey, USA, Poland, Egypt, and the Republic of Korea showed a significant reduction in Carpal Tunnel Sundrom pain (SMD= -1.122; 95% CI= -1.93 to -0.32; p <0.001).Conclusion: The use of kinesio taping can reduce pain in patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.Keywords: kinesio taping, reduction of pain, carpal tunnel syndrome.Correspondence:Lely Tri Pangesti. Abstract

Background: Chronic neuromusculoskeletal pain is pain that lasts more than three months and is often accompanied by sleep disturbances, impacting the sufferer's quality of life. Acupuncture, a complementary therapy, is known to reduce pain and improve sleep quality through nervous system modulation and neurohormonal regulation. Purpose: To determine the effect of acupuncture therapy on sleep quality in patients with chronic neuromusculoskeletal pain. Method: The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest approach and a control group. The sample size was 50 respondents, divided into an experimental group and a control group. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) before and after the intervention. Results: PSQI score in the experimental group decreased from 11.5 in the pretest to 5.3 in the posttest, indicating an improvement in sleep quality from poor to good. Most respondents in the experimental group were in the good sleep category after the intervention, while the control group remained predominantly in the mild sleep category, with an average PSQI score of 8.2. Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy has been shown to have a positive effect in improving sleep quality in patients with chronic neuromusculoskeletal pain and can be used as a complementary therapy in chronic pain management. Pendahuluan: Nyeri neuromuskuloskeletal kronis merupakan nyeri yang berlangsung lebih dari tiga bulan dan sering disertai gangguan kualitas tidur, sehingga berdampak pada kualitas hidup penderita. Terapi akupunktur sebagai terapi komplementer diketahui mampu menurunkan nyeri serta memperbaiki kualitas tidur melalui modulasi sistem saraf dan regulasi neurohormonal. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui pengaruh terapi akupunktur terhadap kualitas tidur pada pasien dengan nyeri neuromuskuloskeletal kronis. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan desain quasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan pretest–posttest disertai kelompok kontrol. Sampel berjumlah 50 responden yang dibagi menjadi kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Pengukuran kualitas tidur dilakukan menggunakan instrumen Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Hasil: Rata-rata skor PSQI pada kelompok eksperimen menurun dari 11.5 saat pretest menjadi 5.3 pada posttest yang menandakan peningkatan kualitas tidur dari kategori buruk menjadi baik. Sebagian besar responden pada kelompok eksperimen berada dalam kategori tidur baik setelah intervensi, sedangkan kelompok kontrol masih didominasi kategori tidur buruk ringan dengan rata-rata skor PSQI sebesar 8.2. Simpulan: Terapi akupunktur terbukti berpengaruh positif dalam meningkatkan kualitas tidur pada pasien dengan nyeri neuromuskuloskeletal kronis dan dapat digunakan sebagai terapi komplementer dalam manajemen nyeri kronis.
