Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are chronic diseases that cannot be transmitted from one person to another. The aging population is at greater risk of developing NCDs, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease. Several factors, including genetics, physiology, environment, and lifestyle, can cause these diseases. Poor lifestyle habits, not balanced with physical activity and a healthy diet, significantly increase the prevalence of NCDs in a region. In Indonesia, 73% of deaths are caused by NCDs, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Jakarta provinces have the highest prevalence of NCDs. Therefore, a community service program was implemented to educate the older adults and increase their knowledge about NCDs. This program was integrated with the Wreda Mandiri Posyandu for Older Adults, an Integrated Health Service Post in Yogyakarta using interactive educational methods. The pre-test and post-test results given to 12 participants showed a significant increase in knowledge scores. This outreach and mentoring program can be continued regularly to improve the quality of life for older adults. Keyword : Non-communicable diseases; Older Adults; Counseling.
