Abstract

This article presents the research result of teaching-learning in the lecture of Poetry Analysis towards the students of English Literature at Faculty of Language and Literature in Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an (UNSIQ). This article aims at analyzing grammatical mistakes in the Poetry Analysis class by taking the students’ final paper as the samples of main data. This study uses qualitative methodology. The collected data steps are identifying, classifying and selecting the main data which contain of grammatical mistakes. The analyzing data techniques are exposing and explaining the selected data. The theories applied in this study are related to some sources about correct and incorrect structures and arrangement of sentences in English. The results of this study show that some of the students made mistakes in arranging sentences especially in English parts of speech such as pronoun, noun and verb.

Abstract

This article presents the study result of womanism reflected in digital poetry. This study applies qualitative research methodology. In collecting the data, the researcher compiled the digital poems related to the issue of womanism and attempted to collect the poems by searching on internet. The methods of analyzing are displaying the identified poems, explaining the displayed poems and interpreting the explained poems with womanism theory. The findings of the study show that womanism is reflected in many ways based on the expression written in the digital poems. Womanism revealed in the digital poems is the forms of confronting marginalization towards woman, promoting appreciation towards woman in domestic relationship and male-womanist voice.

Abstract

This study purposed in revealing : (1) the reflection of dysfunctional family in Celeste Ng’s “Everything I Never Told You” and (2) the psychological state of Lydia as the child of dysfunctional family in Celeste Ng’s “Everything I Never Told You”. Descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the novel entitled “Everything I Never Told You” written by Celeste Ng as the object of research. The method of collecting data in this research includes reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The method of analysing the data are done by displaying, explaining, and interpreting. Dysfunctional family concept and Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis are used in analyzing the data. The finding shows that : (1) there are some reflections indicate the dysfunctional family in Celeste Ng’s “Everything I Never Told You”, such as, the cause of dysfunctional family shown by authoritarian parents, the characteristics of dysfunctional family shown by prolonged conflict and perfectionist expectation toward children, and the type of dysfunctional family in form of chronic conflict family; (2) the psychological state of Lydia as the child of dysfunctional family is illustrated by isolated and empty feeling, dependent due to fear of being abandoned, super responsibility by adopting the enabler type, feel guilty when looking for satisfaction for herself, and the ego defense mechanism in the form of regression. The psychological state of Lydia is described through the apparatus in her unconscious mind, there are, the id, the superego, and the ego.

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze : (1) the fatherhood in Marc Foster’s Finding Neverland (2) the psychological statement of James Barrie who commit to be father in Marc Foster’s Finding Neverland. The research is in form of descriptive qualitative analysis in analyzing Marc Foster’s Finding Neverland (2004) movie as the object of the research. The data analyzed by using Psychology of Literature theory, Fatherhood theory, Anna Freud’s Defense Mechanism, and Alter Ego theory. The researcher uses two types of data sources, they are main data and supporting data. The method of collecting data includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, simplying, and selecting. The methods of analyzing the data includes exposing, explaining, and interpreting. The result of the research, first, it shows that the main character reflected the fatherhood through the fulfillment of father’s roles he is doing in Marc Foster’s Finding Neverland such as being a companion, teacher, care provider, moral guide, role model, breadwinner, protector, and spouse. For the second, the psychological state of James James Barrie as he has psychological trauma, he uses repression and reversal as his defense mechanism to deal with his trauma, and he has also an alter ego or different personality.

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze : (1) the type of delusion reflected in the main character reflected in Charlie Kaufman in “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”, (2) the psychological condition of Jake as delusion’s sufferer reflected in Charlie Kaufman in “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”. The study uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze the film entitled “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” directed by Charlie Kaufman as the objective research. The collecting data of the research method includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The analyzing data of the research method by used displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The researcher analyzes the data by using Abnormal Psychology and Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis. The result of the study : (1) the type of delusion reflected in the main character reflected in Charlie Kaufman in “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” such as erotomanic delusion and grandiose delusion; (2) the psychological condition of Jake as delusion’s sufferer in form of feeling anxious due to hallucination, delusion, and stress by using Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze gender roles reflected by the male and female characters in Craig Brewer’s Coming 2 America (2021) and the way male characters marginalize female characters in society under patriarchy system reflected in Coming 2 America (2021). The researcher applied descriptive qualitative method in analyzing Craig Brewer’s Coming 2 America (2021) as the objective of research. In analyzing the movie, the researcher used some theories such as gender study, gender Roles, and Walby’s patriarchy structures. The result of the study shows that male characters role are always in the higher position than female characters role in society that lead women to be marginalized ones and the way male characters marginalize female characters under patriarchy system that is found in five of six structures of patriarchy, namely, marginalization under patriarchy in household, marginalization under patriarchy in state, marginalization in form of male violence, marginalization in sexuality, and marginalization in culture.

Abstract

This article focuses on the narrative contents of Indonesian short storyteller in TikTok. TikTok storytelling is one of the forms of literature in cyber space. The aim of the research is to explain about storytelling which contain of violent content by Indonesian TikTok up loaders. The research design applied is qualitative research. The result of the research shows that the TikTok’s short storytelling videos are mostly violent narrative contents which take some themes dealing with the story genre of Indonesian horror, domestic violence, bullying toward children, religious punishment, bad relationship between husband and wife, bad relationship between children and parents, the punishment toward evil person, bad children and bad student. Storytelling in TikTok can affect the viewer’s habit of speaking as they imitate the language used by the content creators in their daily conversation. The viewers include both teenager and underage. Through this research, the next researcher can gain insight literature form development in cyber space and it can be the reference of the study on language variation used by the millennial generation of 5.0 era.

Abstract

This article presents the study result of : (1)bipolar disorder indications reflected in the main character of Pat Solitano in “Silver Linings Playbook”, (2) the main character’s mental state as the sufferer of bipolar disorder presented in “Silver Linings Playbook”. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the film entitled “Silver Linings Playbook” directed by David Owen Russel as the objective research. The collecting data of the research method includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The analyzing data of the research method by using displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The researcher analyzes the data by using Abnormal Psychology and Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis. The result of the study : (1) the type of bipolar disorder reflected in the main character in David O. Russell’s in “Silver Linings Playbook” such as mood swing, irritability and agitation, impulsive behavior, grandiosity and racing thought, and sleep disturbance; (2) the psychological condition of Pat as bipolar disorder sufferer in form manic episodes are pat became a grumpy character, easily agitated, impulsive, narcissistic, and an insomniac.
