Abstract

Most people understand that the learning of Kitab Kuning in pesantren is more focused on the normative teachings of students referred to from at-turast written in Arabic. Therefore, to be able to understand it, it is necessary to have the ability to understand the science of nahwu, sharaf, mufradat, balaghah, mantiq, kalam, fiqh, and Sufism. Apart from the general understanding of learning in Pesantren, it turns out that researchers have found the meaning of humanity and spirituality from the treasures at turast that the students learn. The learning strengthens student s' attitudes toward religious moderation and their attitude to diversity amid the diversity of Indonesian society. The researcher obtained this finding while learning the process in Pesantren As-Shuffah Rembang. This study used the phenomenological and autoethnography methods. From this method, the researcher found the meaning of humanity and spirituality of Kitab Kuning, because it is inseparable from the strengthening of learning in understanding the humanity of the Kitab Kuning language. This learning strengthening is carried out through the following: first, strengthening the existence of Kiai during the study of turast; Second, the presence of Kiai forms students' awareness of their universal intelligence. Third, introducing the instrument validates the meaning of the Kitab Kuning from the perspective of maqashid as shari'ah. Fourth, students' linguistic reasoning is strengthened to understand the humanity of the Kitab Kuning.

The Contextual Approach (Contextual Teaching and Learning/CTL) is a learning concept that links subject matter to students' life situations. This article discusses the meaning, components, principles and steps for implementing CTL. CTL components include meaningful relationships, meaningful work, self-regulated learning, collaboration, critical and creative thinking, individualized service, achievement of high standards, and authentic assessment. The principles include constructivism, discovery, inquiry, learning communities, modeling, reflection, and real assessment. The implementation steps include developing students' independent thinking, inquiry, questioning, forming a learning community, modeling, reflection, and authentic assessment. With CTL, learning becomes more relevant, provides meaningful experiences, and develops students' skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and achieving high learning standards.

Abstract

This study examines the coherence and cohesion aspects of the background sections of theses written by preservice Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, five theses were purposively selected from official university repositories. Analysis was conducted using a discourse framework of cohesion and coherence to examine how students structured and connected ideas in their writing. The results indicate that students are good at using cohesive devices, particularly conjunctions and anaphoric references. However, substitution and ellipsis are rarely used, resulting in suboptimal language efficiency. In terms of coherence, most texts have a logical flow; however, the connections between ideas are weak, and the development of ideas is often uneven. These findings suggest that although students possess basic competencies in academic writing, they still require more focused instruction on rhetorical style and text organization. This study has practical implications for improving academic writing pedagogy and curriculum development in teacher education programs, particularly in the context of Islamic higher education.
