Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the BIPA program and provide recommendations for continuous improvement. The research method used is the CIPP evaluation method which includes context, input, process, and product analysis. Data were collected through interviews and classroom observations. The results showed that in the context aspect, the BIPA program at UIN Walisongo has been adjusted to the needs and cultural background of foreign students. The input aspect shows that the curriculum and teaching materials have been well organized, although they still need some improvements to better suit the latest developments in language teaching. In the process aspect, it was found that interactive teaching methods and the use of information technology have increased students' active participation in learning. However, there are challenges in terms of classroom management and adaptation of teaching methods for different levels of students' language ability. The product aspect showed that the program succeeded in significantly improving foreign students' Indonesian language proficiency, although there is still room for improvement especially in speaking and writing skills. This study concludes that the evaluation approach with the CIPP model can provide a comprehensive view of the BIPA program at UIN Walisongo

Abstract

The novel Matahari Diwan Syams Tabrizi written by Jalaluddin Rumi writes about many phenomena related to ecology and is associated with the existence of women. In the view of structuralism, these ecofeminism symptoms can be interpreted as a pejorative of the role of women in life, but the deconstruction reads differently. This is also in line with Rumi's goal in writing an article that should not be interpreted as a cliché. This study aims to find deconstructive elements in the novel Matahari Diwan Syams Tabrizi so that new meanings can be found that deconstruct general views. Efforts in this direction can be achieved by uncovering and finding the binary oppositions that exist in the poems in the novel, describing the parallelism of meaning and the meaning field of the existing binary oppositions, then describing the reversal of the hierarchy so as to create a new meaning. The theoretical approach used in this research is poststructuralism and the methodological approach used is binary opposition. Data was collected using heuristic reading techniques, analyzed through hermeneutic reading techniques. The results of this study indicate that there is a paired opposition between birth and death, heaven with earth, and beauty with ugliness. After finding the paired oppositions, then the parallelism of meaning between the oppositions that forms a row of meanings is found, which can then be used as a benchmark to reverse the hierarchy of the existing paired oppositions, so that it becomes a new text or meaning above the previous hierarchy. Keywords: deconstruction, ecofeminism, poetry, novel, poststructural

Abstract

In recent years, the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence has significantly impacted various aspects of life, including the realm of creative writing in literature. One prominent application of AI is ChatGPT, which can synthesize poetry. However, questions have arisen regarding the extent of their ability to understand and replicate symbolic and sign meanings in literary works, particularly in poetry. This research aims to explore the intervention of artificial intelligence in the poetry creation process and identify limitations related to the use of symbolic and sign functions. Utilizing the perspective of Roland Barthes' Semiotics, this study delves into the symbolic meanings in poetry. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with hermeneutic reading and content analysis of poetry, comparing it with human-authored poetry. The research data consists of poetry created by the artificial intelligence ChatGPT and human-authored poetry. The results indicate limitations in the ability of artificial intelligence to use symbols and signs in poetry, resulting in interpretations that are limited and tend to follow conventional patterns. Artificial intelligence often relies on common symbols and signs, frequently associated with existing cultural myths. Therefore, the role of humans in the creative process remains crucial in literary writing to ensure the diversity of symbols and signs, fostering the development of more innovative and profound interpretations in poetry.

Abstract

This study examines the depiction of Dewi Sri and Dewi Lanjar through a deconstructive intertextual approach with the perspective of ecofeminism in the oral tradition of Javanese folklore. Oral traditions are the main object of study because they are an important means of in-heriting cultural, ecological, and local values between generations. Dewi Sri is widely known in the agrarian traditions of Javanese and Balinese as the goddess of rice and fertility, who is wor-shipped through various rituals such as Ngarot—a fertility plea ceremony before the planting season. Meanwhile, Dewi Lanjar is respected through the oral traditions of the people of the northern coast of Java, especially in Pekalongan, through rituals and prayers on the beach to pray for the safety of the fishermen and protection from the dangers of the sea. Through intertex-tuality analysis, this study found that Dewi Sri is represented as a symbol of ecological harmony, fertility, and prosperity, showing the role of women as the guardian of the balance between hu-mans and nature. On the contrary, Dewi Lanjar, who in the narrative was initially portrayed as a figure full of sorrow, underwent a transformation into a powerful figure who was empowered in managing the relationship with the marine nature, reflecting women's resilience, transcendence, and adaptation to ecological challenges. The deconstructive approach shows that these two fig-ures form a relationship of meaning that complements each other, opening up space for new readings of the role of women in ecologically oriented Javanese culture. These findings enrich the understanding of ecofeminism in the folklore of the archipelago and affirm the importance of pre-serving oral traditions as a vehicle for ecological and cultural learning.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesian folktales present female characters transforming in response to social or cultural expectations. From an ecofeminist perspective, these narratives reflect deeper critiques of the intertwined marginalization of women and nature. Specifically, the study examines recurring motifs of female transformation into natural elements in three folktales: Nini dan Puteri Ikan, Asal Usul Kota Banyuwangi, and Legenda Ikan Patin. These stories portray women who, due to betrayal, grief, or societal pressure, undergo symbolic metamorphosis, particularly through transformations into fish or through symbolic fusion with water. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, applying thematic analysis with NVivo-style coding to identify patterns across texts. The analysis highlights three key themes: bodily transformation as a form of resistance or consequence, the weight of patriarchal expectations that restrict female agency, and spiritual or mystical symbolism that elevates the transformation beyond mere punishment. The findings suggest that these transformations function as both acts of protest and modes of renewal, expressing loss, liberation, and transcendence. Through this lens, the tales reveal cultural perspectives on women, morality, and human-nature relationships. Ultimately, the study contributes to gender and folklore scholarship by showing how narratives of female transformation encode socio-cultural anxieties and aspirations, offering alternative understandings of identity, power, and ecological interconnectedness.

Abstract

This study examines the coherence and cohesion aspects of the background sections of theses written by preservice Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, five theses were purposively selected from official university repositories. Analysis was conducted using a discourse framework of cohesion and coherence to examine how students structured and connected ideas in their writing. The results indicate that students are good at using cohesive devices, particularly conjunctions and anaphoric references. However, substitution and ellipsis are rarely used, resulting in suboptimal language efficiency. In terms of coherence, most texts have a logical flow; however, the connections between ideas are weak, and the development of ideas is often uneven. These findings suggest that although students possess basic competencies in academic writing, they still require more focused instruction on rhetorical style and text organization. This study has practical implications for improving academic writing pedagogy and curriculum development in teacher education programs, particularly in the context of Islamic higher education.
