Abstract

Underweight is a condition of malnutrition characterized by thin body weight or below normal. Parenting patterns related to feeding and weighing practices are one of the factors causing underweight. Poor nutritional status has an impact on growth disorders, low cognitive abilities and Intelligence Option values. This study aims to determine the relationship between feeding practices and weighing discipline with the incidence of underweight in toddlers aged 24-59 months in the working area of the Pengasih II Health Center, Kulon Progo Regency. The design of this study was cross-sectional. Data were obtained by interview using a questionnaire. The sampling technique was clustered random sampling. The number of research subjects was 176. Data analysis used descriptive analysis, Chi-square, and Binary Logistic Regression. There is a significant relationship between feeding practices (OR=2.256, p=0.023) and weighing discipline (OR=4.175, p=0.002) with the incidence of underweight in toddlers aged 24-59 months (p>0.05). The prevalence ratio of underweight in children aged 24-59 months is more often found in parents who are not disciplined in weighing their children every month and inappropriate feeding practices by parents in children. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between feeding practices and weighing discipline in children aged 24-59 months with the incidence of underweight.

Abstract

Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage that can provide effects comparable to commercial sports drinks in supporting physical performance and physiological responses. On the other hand, pineapple is a tropical fruit with natural anti-inflammatory properties, a sweet taste, and a distinctive, refreshing aroma, making it a potential enhancer of the sensory characteristics of sports drinks. This study aimed to develop a sports drink formulation based on coconut water and pineapple juice and to evaluate the sensory characteristics of the formulated beverages. Sensory evaluation was conducted with 38 panellists using a 4-point scale, and the data were analysed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The difference in the proportion of coconut water and pineapple juice significantly affected the organoleptic parameters of colour (p<0.001) and aftertaste (p=0.011) but had no significant effect on aroma (p=0.450), taste (p=0.136), or overall preference (p=0.743). An increased proportion of pineapple juice in the formulation resulted in a brighter colour and a more pungent aftertaste in the sports drink. The selected formulation in terms of colour was Formula 3; meanwhile, Formula 1 was preferred for aftertaste.

Abstract

Posyandu plays a crucial role in monitoring the growth and development of infants and toddlers through monthly anthropometric measurements and nutrition and health counseling. Accurate anthropometric data are essential for developing effective nutrition policies. However, measurement techniques performed by Posyandu cadres are often inaccurate, partly due to limited training support. This study aims to examine the effect of training on the knowledge and skills of posyandu cadres about nutrition and anthropometry. A literature search was conducted using Google Scholar with keywords such as “training”, “posyandu cadres” or “posyandu officers”, “skills”, “knowledge”, “anthropometry”, “infants”, “toddlers”. Literature was selected based on the specific inclusion criteria, which included quantitative experimental studies published between 2020 and 2024 focused on posyandu cadres in Indonesia. Studies were excluded if they were not original research, did not examine changes in the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres, or did not utilize appropriate data collection instruments. Four studies demonstrated that training positively impacted cadres’ skills in taking anthropometric measurements. One study showed an improvement in the cadres’ ability to detect stunting, and another found an increase in the cadres’ knowledge scores following training. The findings of this study indicate that training for Posyandu cadres can significantly enhance their knowledge of nutrition and their skills in anthropometric measurement, which may influence future policies and interventions.

Abstract

Temuan ini menyoroti potensi growol sebagai makanan fungsional dengan sifat sinbiotik untuk mengelola sindrom metabolik.KATA KUNCI: growol; kadar glukosa; profil lipid; sindrom metabolik; tikus ABSTRACTBackground: Growol is a traditional food from Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, made from cassava through fermentation. This fermentation process utilizes Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), particularly Lactobacillus casei subsp. rhamnosus TGR 2. The synbiotic properties of “growol” make it a functional food with the potential to improve lipid profile and blood glucose levels. Objectives: This study aims to assess the impact of “growol” administration on blood glucose levels and lipid profiles in an animal model of metabolic syndrome. Methods: The study was conducted in a laboratory with 36 Wistar rats, which were divided into six groups: two control groups and four treatment groups. The control groups included a negative control group fed a standard diet and a positive control group given a high-fat and fructose diet (DTLF). The treatment groups received the DTLF for 4 weeks, followed by 4 weeks of intervention with Growol diets containing 25% growol (P1), 50% growol (P2), 75% growol (P3), and 100% growol (P4).Results: The findings indicated a significant decrease in total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and glucose levels, along with an increase in HDL, in the treatment groups receiving growol (P1-P4) (p<0.05). In contrast, the negative and positive control groups exhibited significant increases in glucose, total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides, along with a decrease in HDL (p<0.05).Conclusions: A growol-based diet significantly improves lipid profiles and glucose levels in a rat model of metabolic syndrome. These results highlight the potential of growol as a functional food with synbiotic properties that may aid in managing metabolic syndrome.KEYWORD: glucose levels; growol; lipid profile; metabolic syndrome; rats
